APPLICATION:  Completed signed application  Submit Two (2) copies of your current plat of survey indicating the location of fence.  Indicate type of fence, location of gates, height and fence material being used.  Check with your Homeowners Association regarding covenant restrictions.  Contact JULIE, INC. at 811 – Two (2) working days prior to digging to locate utilities. CODE REQUIREMENTS:  Homeowners with “Corner lots” have location restrictions. Check with the building department before purchasing and signing a contract with a fence company for your fence material as well as applying for a fence permit.  See Zoning Ordinance, Article X, Fences, Section 9-84 thru 9-90. (See a portion of the ordinance attached). The ordinance may be viewed at http://plainfield-il.org/government/municipalcode.php.  No portion of the fence material shall be allowed to block drainage in easements.  A fence constructed within drainage or utility easement areas may be removed without notice during construction or repairs to the easement.  A fence cannot be constructed within any landscape easement or storm water management easement.  The fence cannot extend beyond your property line.  If you have an above ground pool without a railing (rail topper) your fence height must be a minimum of 5’ Feet. If you have an in-ground pool the minimum fence height must be 5’ Feet.  The height of any single continuous length of fence is limited to six 6’ feet. (Check with your homeowners association for lower height restrictions within your subdivision). 14400 S. INSPECTION:  Final Inspection PERMIT FEE:  The permit fee is $40.00 (cash or check only) for a fence permit; the fee is due at time of issuance. (1) Construction. All fences must be erected or installed so that the finished side faces outward (i.e., construction supports facing in). Sec. 9-86. - Fences in R districts other than core area and TN districts. In addition to the provisions of section 9-85, General fence standards for all districts, the following standards apply to all R districts except the TN district and those lots within the core area: (1) Permitted locations. Fences are permitted in any rear yard and interior side yard. Fences are not permitted in the front yard or corner side yard. Figure X-3 illustrates various building footprints and where fences would be allowed. Figure X-3. Permitted Fence Locations in R Districts. The above examples illustrate various building footprints and corresponding permitted areas for fences. The illustrations are not drawn to scale and are not intended to accurately depict required setbacks or other dimensions. (2) Permitted materials and design. Fences may be constructed of wood, wood laminate, wrought iron, masonry, aluminum, vinyl or a combination of these materials. Any material used must be rigid. Any use of barbed wire, razor wire, or similar such wire manufactured and used primarily for security, is prohibited. Chain-link fencing may be used only to replace or repair a chain-link fence that was existing on the effective date of this ordinance or for recreation and utility applications.
