HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-23-2016 Joint Workshop with HPC Minutes //43/20/„4, Minutes Minutes of the Joint Workshop of the President and the Board of Trustees and the Historic Preservation Commission Held on May 23,2016 In the Boardroom Mayor Collins called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Board Present: Mayor Collins, Trustee Lamb, Trustee O'Rourke, Trustee Peck, Trustee Racich, Trustee Wojowski, and Trustee Bonuchi. HPC Present: Commissioner Bortel, Commissioner Derrick, Commissioner Olsen, Commissioner Olsen, Commissioner Barvian, Commissioner Rapp, Commissioner Hendricksen, Commissioner Lucas, and Commissioner Hagen. HPC Absent: Commissioner Schimidt. Others present: Brian Murphy, Administrator; Jon Proulx, Planning Director; Ken Goska, Building Official, and John Konopek, Chief of Police. There were approximately 45 persons in the audience. PUBLIC COMMENTS No Comments. JOINT MEETING #1 HISTORIC PRESERVATION OVERVIEW Chairman Bortel presented the Annual Preservation Awards to: • Plainfield Park District—Village Green Landscaping • 14930 S. Illinois Street • 15118 S. Division • 21426 W. Chicago Street • 15135 S. DesPlaines • Larry Kachel—Active Participation Chairman Bortel presented the Landmark Designation Plaque to Mr. and Mrs. Krahn, 14910 S. Bartlett. Chairman Bortel thanked the Village Board for their support and gave an overview of the HPC accomplishments and outreach initiatives. Chairman Bortel then reviewed properties in the Business Transition District. Commissioner Derrick stated the Historic Preservation Commission is hopeful that the Business Transition District will continue to be a great planning tool to help preserve Plainfield's character of historic properties and that the Historic Preservation Commission is willing to provide their creativity and expertise to help identify creative new uses for those properties. Commissioner Derrick reviewed a marketing packet created by Commissioner Schmidt for reuse of the grain elevator to help preserve it and also reviewed the marketing packet created for the trolley barn. Chairman Bortel stated that it is his hope/goal to work with developers on Business Transition District properties. The Mayor and the Board of Trustees thanked the Historic Preservation Commission for the efforts and the presentation. Lamb, yes; O'Rourke, yes; Peck, yes; Racich, yes; Wojowski, yes; Bonuchi, yes. 6 yes, 0 no. Motion carried. Commissioner Barvian moved to adjourn the Joint Meeting. Second by Commissioner Lucas. Vote by roll call. Bortel, yes; Derrick, yes; Schmidt, absent; Olsen, yes, Barvian, yes; Rapp, yes; Hendricksen, yes; Lucas, yes; Hagen, yes. 8 yes, 0 no, 1 absent. Motion carried.
