A meeting of Council was held today at 7 :30 P.M., in the Auditorium and was attended by Mayor -elect Counihan and Councilmen -elect Jones, Cary, Daniels, Hohenstein, Schwarz, Jung, Judge Heery, Joseph Petty. The meeting was for the purpose of swearing in the newly elected Board for the ensuing term. The Resdlution showing the results of the election held on April 1, 1968,and Which was adopted at the meeting of Council held on April 1, 1968, was raed, after which Judge B.B.Heery administered the following oath: "I, Michael J.Counihan, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and hinestly perform tye duties of the Mayor of the Town of bavannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, to thebest of my skill and ability, without favor or affection, so help me God. Further, I, Michael J.Counihan, citizen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, andnbeing an employee of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, and the recipient o pub c funds for services rendered as such employee, do hereb l ��' Knd affirm that I will support the Constitutiln of a United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and that I am_ Not a member of the Communist Party and that I have no sympathy for the doctines of eommu nisim and will not lend my aid, my support, my advise, my counsel, nor my i nflurmce, to the Communist Party or to the teachings of communism. Signed Michael J.Counihan. Judge Heery then extended well wishes to Mayor Counihan and the Mayor thanked Judge Heery for his courtesy in coming down to administer the oath to him and his Board. He also thanked Mr. Joe Petty for acting as Master of Ceremonies. Judge Heery then administered the following oath to the six Councilmen - elect;: "We, Robert F.Cary, John H.Daniels,Jr., C.Louis Hohenstein, Millege C.Jones, Edward Jung and George C.Schwarz, do solemnly swear that we will fathfully perform the duties of Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, to the best of our skill and ability, without favor or _affection, so help God. We, Robert F.Cary, John H. Daniels, Jr., C.Louis Hohenstein, Millege C.Jones, Edward 'Jung, and George C. Schwarz, citizens of Chatham County, Georgia, and being employees of the 2pwnof Savannah Beach, and the recipients of public Funds for services rendered as such employees, do hereby solemnly swear and affirm that we will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and that we hre -gnat EO!De Yof the Communist Party and that we have no sympathy for the doctrines of communism and will not lend our &id, our support, our advice, our counsel, nor our influence 178 to the Communist Party or to the teachings of comminism. Schwarz Edward Jung The Mayor nominated John H.Daniels, Jr., Chairman of Council; Joseph J.Hutton, Town Engineer; Thomas O'Brien, Auditor; Bart Shea, Town Attorney and Recorder; Henry M.Buckley, Clerk of Council and ex- officio Treasurer; James W. :rice, Sr., Chief of Police and ex- officio Tax Collector; Dr. Lundquist, Health Officer; Dr. Walter Otto, Asst Health Officer; C.J.Herb, Electrical Advisor; Edmund J.Solomo n, Chief of Fire Dept,(temporary) Councilman Cary Moved that the nominations be approved, Councilman Jones, seconded, the motion passed. Councilman Schwarz moved that the regular monthly meetings of Council be held on the third Wednesday of the month at 3 :00 P.M., Councilman Daniels seconded, those voting YES: Schwarz, Hohenstein, Jung, Daniels - voting NO; Cary, Jones, the motion carried. Councilman Cary moved Resolutions authorizing Mayor Counihan, Chairman of Councils Daniels and Treasurer Buckley, to sign checks and ether documents with the Savannah Bank & Trust Com iany and the Liberty National Bank & Trust Company, be adopted - Councilman Jones seconded and the motion passed. The Mayor called for a special meeting of Council for Wednesday, July 10th, at 7r00 P.M. 1 1
