October 16, 1968.
The regular meeting; of Council was held today in the Council Room
and was attended by Chairman of Council Daniels, who presided in
the absence of Mayor Counihan, and Councilmen Jung, Jones, Schwarz,
Hohensteln, Town Attorney Shea, Chief Price, Mrs. E.Butler, Charles
Bolen and Mr. Skeades.
Mr. Bolen requested the field in Memorial Park be lined for football
games , also that a ditch in the area be filled - he also asked for
a meeting plOce for the Boy Scouts - and a recreation park with
equipment in the Estill Station area - Referred to Jung and and
Hohenstein.
Mr. Skeadas wants to build 8 units on Veranda Motel property close
to street line - Councilman Daniels stated that he spoken to some
members of Council who are not at the meeting today regarding this -
will see Mr. Skeadas over the weekend.
The mintmtes of the meeting of September 18th were read and 'adopted.
Councilman Jung reported that a poll of Town employees showed thateee9;7;1
2€S wanted hospitalization moved that the Town pay 5O of the cost
and the emplyees pay 50% - Councilman Schwarz seconded, the motion
passed
Councilman Jung will sot up meeting regarding pietit ens to erect
multi unit apartments east of Butler Avenue - he wants to protect
the property owners and also co- operate with the petitioners.
Councilman Jung moved that bills' be discounted upon receipt;, after
approval by departments heads, and paid, before Council meeting -
Councilrman Jones seconded, the motion passed.
Mr. Shea informed Council thathe had contacted Dr. Lundquist, of the
Health Dept regarding the clearing of lots in Chatham County - what
proueedure,ho used - the City of Savannah has a lot clearing
Ordinance.
Councilman Schwarz informed Council that two of the fire engines
needs repairs - He will handle.
Councilman Schwarz reported that he spoken to ,Mr. Greer regarding
a new well, who will come down any check on it - if Councilman
Cary vannot meet with him - Councilman Schwarz will.
Councilman Jones stated that contra tors should haul trash away
from lots - suggested that Mr. Shea draw an Ordinance regarding
this.
Councilman Schwarz stated that the sandduncs shoulege cut down -
Mr. Shea will write letters to property owners not to out sand
dunes down.

Councilman Ijohenstein• informed Council that he had a request- for use
of the Auditorium, 2 days a wock for use a a dancing school, he
stated that this interfere with the business routine in the Town
Hall - when the Community Houso is repaired he will discuss it
with petitioner.- Councilman Daniels requested him to soe what he
can do for the Boy Scouts- alpe to have the football field in
Memoriel Park linded.
Councilman Hohenstein stated that swimming pools built for public
use must comply with HB standards.
Councilman Hohenstein discussed erosion problems with Mr. Greer
and also with Col Brown, of the U.S.Engineers toward getting federal
aid grant for Seawall and Jetties - they will let him l.now - he
he also hoped to get help through the South Eastern Planning
Commission - regarding the erosion at the Camp Site,when Tearnaequiris
the land, the.Engineers will check.
Councilman Schwarz had gotten prices on decals - 200 for .56 4 -
300 for .460. - 500 for .36, ect., same type as City of.Savannah,
numbered..
Councilman Schwarz informed Council that the Mayor had appointed
him Chairman of the Fire-Health-Sanitation Committee in place of
Councilman Cary - and had appointed Councilman Cary Chairman of
Water-Sewerage in place of Councilman ScheWarz.
Councilman Jones moved that the Street Business License Tax be
placed on second reading and passed - Councilman Schwarz seconded
the motion passed.
ORDINANCE.
Councilnan Jones moved that the property of the Estate of Louis
Cohen be quit claimed to it,- Councilman Schwarz seconded, the
motion passed.
Councilman Schwarz reported that fences were encroaching on the
beach - Councilman Daniels stated this will be discussed by the
Mayor -nd Ton Attorney at the next meeting.
Councilman Schwarz asked what to do with water bill charged to
Leon Friedman.
councilman Dahielsreported complaints regarding shooting of firearms
in the Town limits - he instructed the chief to check on it - Chief
Price stated this we done in the Lazaretto Creek area.
Councilman Daniels appointed Councilmen Jung, Cary, Daniels a
a Committee to check the Town Charter.
Mayor Counihan appointed. Councilman George Schwarz Deputy Director
of Chatham-Savannah Defense Council to succeed former Mayor J.A.Brown
and asked for the a.proval of Council which was granted. .

Councilman Daniels informed Council that the Water Safety Committee
of, the American Red Cross invited him to attend a meeting regarding
water safety at the beach - they agreed to aid. Town in working out
a plan for the Town and report tp Council - the Police Dept will •
courses when held.
A letter was read from the JCs thanking Council for its fine
cooperation.
Dearing Chevrolet Co notified the Town that through an error they allowed
a credit of $500.00on the ton truck that they sold us and requested
payment - Councilman Jung and. Jones will hardlo.
Bills for the .tfrious departments were approved for payment.
