A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF
STREAM, FLORIDA, REQUESTING GOVERNOR LAWTON CHILES TO LET
HB 1799/SB 3032 BECOME LAW AND PERMIT THE TOWN OF GULF
STREAM TO RESTORE THE SCENIC AND HISTORIC CHARACTER OF
STATE ROAD A1A IN THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
whereas, the Florida legislature and Governor Lawton Chiles
designated that portion of State Road AIA from Sea Road on the
North to Pelican Lane on the south as a State Scenic and Historic
Highway in 1992; and
whereas, the majestic Australian pine canopy along said
highway is the primary element of the highway's scenic and historic
character; and
Whereas, the trees that comprise the remaining portion of the
canopy have stood proudly for nearly 70 years and are nearing the
end of their expected life; and
Whereas, HB 1799/SB 3032 permits the Town of Gulf Stream an
exemption to replant Australian pine to preserve the canopy; and
Whereas, the Town of Gulf Stream will develop and implement a
landscaping plan that includes Australian pine and other plant
materials to enhance the scenic and historic character of the
highway and improve highway safety; and
Whereas, these bills were unanimously approved by both houses
of the state legislature; and
Whereas, the bills will be forwarded to Governor Lawton Chiles
for final action;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream,
Florida respectfully requests that Governor Lawton Chilespermit HB
1799/SB 3032 to become law so that the Town may restore the scenic
and historic character of State Road AlA in the Town of Gulf
Stream.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida at the
regular meeting of the Town Commission on this 10th day of May,
1996.
