HomeMy Public PortalAbout19690115CCMeetingSavannah Beach, Georgia January 15, 1969 The regular meeting of Council was held today at 3:00 P.M. in the Council; Room and was attended by Mayor Counihan, who presided, Councilmen Daniels, Jung, Cary, Schwarz, Jones, Hohenstein, Town Attorney Shea, Supt. Reed, Chief Price, Dwight Davis, R. H. Van Buren, H. H. Glissen, E. M. Patterson, Charles Rockwell, Cecil Kennedy, Hubert Ellzey, Mrs. Evelyn Butler and Mrs. Julian Kelly. Mr. Davis, representing the Savannah Beach Tax Payers Association with seven (7) directors present, protested the present tax assess- ments and requested they be reduced to 40% of fair market value. Mrs. Kelly stated that she was in favor of the 40% assessment also. Consideration to be given to the matter. Mrs. Butler inquired as to the status of Gentlehaven's use of a Town Building. The Mayor informed Mrs. Butler that the Town will not chahnge its commitment allowing use of the building by Gentle - haven. Mr. Ellzey stated that Council approved a traffic light at Campbell and Highway 80, in March of 1962. The Mayor informed Mr. Ellzey that Campbell Avenue would be paved by the State Highway Department and upon completion, a caution light will be installed. Discussion on the parking lot. Councilman Jones will bring in an expert on parking lots. Councilman Daniels moved that the regular meeting of Council be postponed to February 26th; Councilman Jones seconded, and the motion passed. Councilman Jung informed Council that the new Charter would not be ready for presentation to the Georgia Legislature this session. Councilman Schwarz moved that a committee be appointed to redraft the new Charter. Councilman Jones seconded and the motion passed. Mr. Shea requested acommittee be appointed to determine what property owners are involved in proposed annexation. Committee to work with Mr. Shea. Discussion was held as to whose responsibility it was in regard to stand by fireman left at the scene after a fire was extinguished. Councilman Schwarz to check into the matter. Mayor Counihan called attention to the Mayors' Day meeting in 2 Atlanta and stated that Councilmen Daniels, Jones, Town Attorney Shea and himself will attend. Mr. Richard Ellis protested the Building Contractors License fee assessed against him as he was erecting the structure for his home. Councilman Jones moved that Mr. Ellis be relieved of paying the license fee, Councilman Hohenstein seconded and the motion passed. Bills for the various departments were approved foi( payment. Councilman Jung moved that the following Ordinance, regulating the moving of buildings and charging a license fee be adopted, to be effective May 1, 1969. Councilman Schwarz seconded, the motion was not passed. Councilman Cary moved that the Water Ordinance be amended to re- quire property owners to pay for water service when they rent to terants, effective May 1, 1969. Councilman Jung seconded and the motion passed. Placed on first reading. ORDINANCE Council was adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Clerk of Council 1
