A special meeting of Town Council was held today in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Counihan,.who presided, and Councilmen Jack Daniels, Edward Jung, Robert Cary, George Schwarz, Milledge Jones and Dr. Louis Hohenstein; also Town Attorney, Bart Shea. The ::meeting was called for the purpose of -receiving the returns of the Special Referendum Election from the managers and to adopt a resolution acknowledging' The following certified report of Judge Shelby Myrick, Election Superintendent and the Election Managers was read by Town Attorney Bart Shea: TO THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN OF SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA We, the undersigned who were duly appointed as Managers of the.election, by resolution adopted by the Mayor and Councilmen on August 20, 1969, to conduct the Special Election called by the Mayor and Councilmen to be held on September 17, 1969 in accordance of the provisions of the applicable acts and statutes incorporating the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and amendments . thereto; the provisions contained within -this resolution adopted by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, on August 13, 1969; and in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia Municipal Election Code, do hereby certify that said special' election was held on September 17, 1969 in accordance with such laws and that the results of said special election are as follows, to wit: -263 Electors residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted for annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the'corporate limits of the Municipality. 123 Electors residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted against annexing all.of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 4S 4 Electors not residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted for annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 12 Electors not residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted against annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 125 Electors voted for the Right of Municipality to sell Inlet Avenue. 268 Electors voted against the Right of Munici- pality to sell Inlet Avenue. 139 Electors voted for Right of Municipality to sell Alley-No. One (I). 247 Electors voted against the Right of. Munici- pality to sell Alley No. One (1). 143 Electors voted for Right of Municipality to sell portion of the former Lovell Avenue and an unnumbered Triangle Lot, Ward No. Five (5). 251 Electors voted against the Right of Munici- pality to sell portion of the former Lovell Avenue and an unnumbered Triangle Lot, Ward No. Five (5) . 179 Electors voted in preference of one hundred (100 %) per cent Assessment for Ad Valorem Taxes at 'Twelve • (12) Mills. 190 Electors voted in preference of forty (40 %) per cent Assessment for Ad Valorem Taxes at Thirty (30) Mills. Election Superintendent and the Election Managers be accepted and the following resolution be adopted. The motion was duly seconded and .unanimously carried. R E S O L U T I O N There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Clerk of Council i 49 50 1 1 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the managers duly named by Resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council assembled, on the 20th day of August, 1969 to conduct the special election just concluded and held on this 17th day of September, 1969, at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the purpose of ascertaining questions pertaining to annexation; the right of the municipality to sell certain portions of their public streets; and the preference of as- sessment and millage for Ad Valorem taxes, having made the consolidated returns and /or results to the Mayor and Councilmen calling said special election, which return consolidation was done in the presence of and together with the several managers and election superintendent; and WHEREAS, it appears that the results of said special election have been certified to the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and, by the managers and by the Honorable Shelby Myrick, Jr., Superintendent of said election, such certification being attached hereto; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly assembled, and it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same, that the results of said special election be, and the same are hereby declared as follows: 263 Electors residing within the current Munincipality boundaries voted for annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 123 Electors residing within the current Munincipality boundaries voted against annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 4 Electors not residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted for annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. 1 1 1 2 12 Electors not residing within the current Municipality boundaries voted against annexing all of the land and territory on Tybee Island, not currently included within the corporate limits of the Municipality. Such proposal of annexation was not approved by the Electorate. 125 Electors voted for Right of Municipality to sell Inlet Avenue. 268 Electors voted against the Right of Munici- pality to sell Inlet Avenue. Such proposal for the right of a Municipality to sell Inlet Avenue was not approved by the Electorate. 139 Electors voted for Right of Munincipality to sell Alley No. One (1) . 247 Electors voted against the Right of Municipality to sell Alley No. One (1) . Such proposal for the right of a Municipality toL.sell Alley No. One (1) was not approved by the Electorate. 143 Electors voted for Right of Municipality to sell portion of the former Lovell Avenue and an unnumbered Triangle Lot, Ward No. Five (5). 251 Electors voted against the Right of Munici- pality to sell portion of the former Lovell Avenue and an unnumbered Triangle Lot, Ward No. Five (5) . Such proposal was not approved by the Electorate of the Municipality. 179 Electors voted in preference of one!>hundred (100%) per cent Assessment for Ad Valorem Taxes at Twelve (12) Mills. - "3 - 190 Electors voted in preference of forty (40%) per cent Assessment for Ad Valorem Taxes at Thirty (30)Mills. The majority of the Electorate expressed a preference for forty (40%) per cent Assessment for Ad Valorem Taxes at Thirty (30) Mills. The above stated returns are hereby adopted by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island and officially made a part of this resolution and the minutes of said council meeting.
