HomeMy Public PortalAbout2023.02.21 Letter M. KrahnRECEIVED FEB 21 2023 McCall City Council 216 East Park St McCall, ID 83638 To McCall City Council Members, February 20, 2023 I write to express my opposition to allowing the proposed bar within 300 feet of our church. That restriction of 300 feet is there for a reason. A bar will change the character and feel of the area, bringing increased traffic, people, and congestion. My concerns mirror many of those expressed at the two meetings our church has had to discuss this issue. I foresee these as possible problems with having a bar so near to our church: • Bar patrons using our parking lot • Garbage littered in alley and anywhere on our property, whether bottles, cans, broken glass(es), or food and food containers/wrappers/napkins from the food truck proposed for some part of the year. Also, people sometimes get sick after leaving a bar, definitely not good anywhere in public, but especially not something we want to see when coming to church Sunday mornings • Increased noise from patrons, music, and more cars/traffic • We don't need another bar downtown. This would mean 3 bars within 2 blocks right in downtown. Another congregation member who lived here in the early 2000's said at one of our meetings that at that time they hired a sheriff to 'clean-up' the downtown area to decrease rowdiness, fights, and all that goes with increased liquor consumption. Why go backward to that? • Without repeating them, I would add my agreement to the concerns expressed and sent to you by Paul DeSchryver, Pastor Emeritus Charlottie Havlicak, Nancy Reberger, and others from our church. Thank you for your time in reconsidering this matter. Sincerely, Marge Krahn Member, McCall Community Congregational Church
