HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES 94/06RESOLUTION NO. 94 -6 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE TOWN MANAGER TO SUBMIT TO THE PALM BEACH COUNTY METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION AN APPLICATION FOR TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS TO RESTORE AND ENHANCE LANDSCAPE FEATURES WITHIN THE RIGHT -OF -WAY OF STATE ROAD AlA IN THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA (A STATE - DESIGNATED HISTORIC AND SCENIC HIGHWAY) AND ENDORSING SAME; AND REQUESTING THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION, FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PALM BEACH COUNTY METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO APPROVE SAID APPLICATION AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS ACCORDINGLY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Whereas, the State of Florida has designated that portion of State Road AlA within the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida from Sea Road on the north to Pelican Lane on the south as a State Historic and Scenic Highway (hereinafter referred to as the Gulf Stream Historic Highway); and Whereas, the Town of Gulf Stream has designated the Gulf Stream Historic Highway and the properties immediately adjacent thereto as the "North Ocean Boulevard Overlay District" which district is intended to promote and protect the historic and scenic resources of said road segment; and Whereas, much of the original landscaping within the right - of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway has been removed or damaged through poor maintenance practices and neglect by state agencies and utilities companies; and Whereas, the Town of Gulf Stream wishes to restore and enhance the scenic and historic landscape features of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway; and Whereas, the United States Government passed into law the Intermodal Surface Transportation Enhancement Act with the intent that funding be provided to promote, protect and restore historic, scenic and landscape features of state highways; and Whereas, the Gulf Stream Historic Highway Committee, a citizens group appointed by the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida to advise the Commission on matters pertaining to the Gulf Stream Historic Highway, has recommended the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida submit to the Palm Beach County Metropolitan Planning Organization an Application for Transportation Enhancement Projects for the restoration and enhancement of landscape features within the right -of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway; and Whereas, the Town Manager of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, has, in accordance with local, state and federal requirements, prepared an Application for Transportation Projects for the restoration and enhancement of landscape features within the right -of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida directs the Town Manager to submit to the Palm Beach County Metropolitan Planning Organization an Application for Transportation Enhancement Projects for the restoration and enhancement of landscape features within the right -of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway and wholeheartedly endorses same. Section 2. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida respectfully requests that the Federal Highway Administration, Florida Department of Transportation, and Palm Beach County Metropolitan Planning Organization approve the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida's Application for Transportation Enhancement Projects for the restoration and enhancement of landscape features within the right -of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway and appropriate funds accordingly. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage and shall be included with and made a part of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida's Application for Transportation Enhancement Projects for the restoration and enhancement of landscape features within the right -of -way of the Gulf Stream Historic Highway.
