HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998-16 Miami Seaquarium property redevelopment; Manager aothorized to begin discussions with Marine Exhibition Corp. representativesRESOLUTION NO, 98-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE VILLAGE MANAGER TO IMMEDIATELY BEGIN DISCUSSIONS WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF MARINE EXHIBITION CORPORATION REGARDING REDEVELOPMENT OF THE MIAMI SEAQUARIUM PROPERTY. WHEREAS, the Key Biscayne Village Council recognizes the importance of tourism to Miami -Dade County and the historical contribution to tourism which the Miami Seaquarium has provided; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is supportive of the continued success and operation of the Seaquarium; and WHEREAS, the Village Council believes that an open discussion with representatives of Marine Exhibition Corporation and other affected persons may lead to orderly development which will not adversely impact upon the residents of the Community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Village Council hereby appoints and directs the Village Manager to immediately begin discussions with representatives of Marine Exhibit Corporation for the purpose of negotiating an agreement on the nature, extent and intensity of the redevelopment of the Miami Seaquarium property. In negotiating such an agreement, the Village Manager is specifically directed to evaluate each of the land uses for the site and their impact (specifically traffic) on the area. The Village Manager is hereby authorized to engage engineering or other professionals he deems appropriate to assist in the negotiations and evaluations and to report back to the Councilpersons on the status of the negotiations on a daily basis.
