A special meeting of City Council was called for 7:00 P.M. this
evening for the purpose of naming a Board of Registrars for the
City of Savannah Beach; also, to name a Municipal Superintendent
and the poll officers for the fob mui.cipal election cap. April 6th.
It was also for the purpose of taking care of other details in
connection with the election. Mayor Counihan presided. The
following councilmen were in attendence: Robert Cary, George
Schwarz, Milledge Jones and Edward Jung. Also in attendence
was City Attorney Bart Shea.
After a review of the names submitted to serve on the Board of
Registrars, Councilman Cary moved that the following be named to
the Board: Mrs. Beverly Hatch — Registrar; Miss Margaret Spellman -
Registrar; E. M. Patterson - Chief Registrar.
The salary or compensation for the registrars was fixed at $10.00
per meeting and $20.00 for election days when they would be on
duty all day.
Judge Shelby Myrick, Jr. was named Election Superintendent and
Mrs. Ethel P. Chandler was named Election Manager. Also, the
following were named poll workers: Mrs. Callie Zittrauer and
Mrs. Carolyn Golden, Assistant Managers; and Mrs. Leona M. East,
Mrs. Hortense Doyle and Mrs. Petra C. Broberg, Clerks. The
Clerk of Council was requested to nofity Judge Myrick and these
poll workers of their appointments.
City Attorney Bart Shea asked for a motion of Council to autho-
rize the newspaper publication of the required legal notice of
the municipal election for mayor and councilmen as well as the
referendum on the proposed new charter. He stated that notice
of the election must be published at least thirty days prior to
the date of the election; also, that the purpose of the election
concerning the charter must be published once a week for two weeks
immediately preceding the date of the election. By a motion made,
duly seconded and passed, Council authorized the publication of
these legal notices to conform with the requirements of the Georgia
, Municipal Election Laws.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned to
the next regular or special called meeting.
