April 6, 1970
A special meeting of Town Council was held today at 7:30 P. M.
in the City Hall Auditorium for the purpose of receiving the
certified returns from the election managers of the General
Municipal Election for Savannah Beach Mayor and Councilmen
and for adopting a Resolution acknowledging same.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor M. J. Counihan and the
following councilmen were in attendance: Jack Daniels, Robert
Cary, Dr. Louis Hohenstein, Milledge Jones, George Schwarz and
Edward Jung. Bart E. Shea, City Attorney was also present.
The following certified report of Judge Shelby Myrick, Jr.,
Election Superintendent and the Election Managers was read
by City Attorney Shea:
TO THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN OF
SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND,
CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA:
We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as
superintendent end.-as ,Manager -o €; the - `general- :election 1.
for Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, by Resolution adopted by the Mayor and
Councilmen at a meeting held on the 25th day of February,
1970,. and who have conducted said general election held
on April 6, 1970, in accordance with the provisions of
the charter and applicable Acts incorporating the City of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and in accordance with the
provisions of the Georgia Municipal Election Code and the
laws of the State of Georgia applicable thereto, do hereby
certify that said general election was held on April 6, 1970,
in accordance with such laws, and that the following candi-
dates received the number of votes set forth opposite their
names for said offices in such election:

We further certify that the new City Charter received
339 votes FOR and 205 votes AGAINST and was therefore
ratified and approved.
We therefore certify that Michael J. Counihan has
received the highest number of votes cast of any candi-
date for Mayor of said City; and that Robert`F. Cary,
John H. Daniels, Edward Jung, George F. Schwarz, James
M. Stettler, and Edward W. Towns have received the highest
number of votes cast for the six offices of councilmen
of said City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island.

Councilman Schwarz moved that the election results, as certi-
fied by the Election Superintendent and the Election Managers,
be accepted and the following resolution acknowledging same
be adopted. The motion was seconded by Councilman Daniels and
unanimously carried
R E S O L U T I O N
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned sub-
ject to the call of the Mayor.

A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Election Superintendent and Managers duly
named by a resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of
the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly
assembled on the 25th day of February, 1970, to conduct the
election just concluded and held on the 6th day of April, 1970,
at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the purpose of
electing a Mayor and six councilmen to hold office until the
first Monday in July, 1972, or until their successors have been
duly elected and qualified, have made the consolidated returns
and results of such election by resolution to the Mayor and
Councilmen calling said election, which return consolidation
was done in the presence and together with the Election Super-
intendent and several managers; and
WHEREAS, it appears that Michael J. Counihan received the
highest number of votes for the office of Mayor of the City of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island;
WHEREAS, Robert F. Cary, John. H. Daniels, Edward Jung,
George F. Schwarz, James M. Stettler, and Edward W. Towns
received the highest number of votes for Councilmen of the
City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly assembled and
it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same, that the
results of said election be, and the same are, hereby declared
as electing:

Robert F. Cary.
John H. Daniels
Edward Jung
George F. Schwarz
James M. Stettler
Edward W. Towns
as Mayor

of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until
the first Monday in July, 1972, or until their successors are
elected and duly qualified,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the new City Charter having
received 339 votes FOR and 205 votes AGAINST is hereby approved
and effective immediatly.
Such results appearing from the returns of the election super-
intendent and said election managers, which said returns are hereby
adopted by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, and officially made a part of this resolution and
the minutes of said Council meeting.
