RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN
OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA,
OPPOSING CHANGES TO THE TOURIST DEVELOPMENT
TAX ALLOCATION WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A REDUC-
TION IN FUNDING FOR THE BEACH IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM, OPPOSING AN ANNUAL CAP.
WHEREAS, The current Ordinance relating to the
Tourist Development Tax is currently being considered for repeal
and replacement by Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, the current Ordinance allocates 500 of the
third one percent of the tax collect to the beach improvement
program. This allocation amounts to 16.60 of the initial three
percent of the Tourist Development Tax collected; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Ordinance will reduce the allo-
cation to the beach improvement program to 14.4% and set a
annual cap on allocations; and
WHEREAS, beaches are an important natural resource to
the local economy and way of life; and
WHEREAS, beaches are the most important single factor
influencing tourists to visit Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, most of Palm Beach County's beachfront has,
and continues to, experience moderate to severe erosion due to
natural causes such as storms and sea level rise, as well as
human - caused influences; and
WHEREAS, the calculated value of shorefront develop-
ment in Palm Beach County which is protected by beaches from
hurricane and storm wave damage is in excess of 4.1 billion
dollars,
NOW; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION
OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. We oppose any action that will reduce the
allocation of funds for the beach improvement program from 16.60
of the first three percent of Tourist Development Tax_
Section 2. We oppose an annual cap on funds allocated
to the beach improvement program.
Section 3. A copy of this resolution to be sent to
the Palm Beach County Commissioners and the Palm Beach County-
wide Beaches and Shores Council upon adoption by this Board.
