A special Meeting of City Council was called for 7:00 P.M. this
evening for the purpose of considering the request of Mr. James
A. Brown for permission to construct a camper- trailer park at
the location of the present Go -Kart Tract; to hold first reading
on an ordinance amending Chapter 19 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Savannah Beach relating to traffic within the
City of Savannah Beach; to appoint a City Marshal for the City
of Savannah Beach; and for other purposes.
Mayor Counihan presided and the following councilmen were in
attendance: Dr. C. Louis Hohenstein, Milledge C. Jones, Robert
F. Cary, Edward Jung and John H. Daniels, Jr. Also present was
City Attorney, Bart E. Shea.
Councilman Daniels requested a first reading on an Ordinance
amending Chapter 19 of the Code of Ordinances of, the City of
Savannah Beach relating to traffic within the City of Savannah
Beach. It was passed on first reading.
Councilman Hohenstein, Parks and Recreation Chairman, informed
Council that he had received a request from Mr. James A. Brown
to construct a camper- trailer park on the site of the old Go-
Kart Tract. After a discussion of the question, the Clerk of
Council was instructed to inform Mr. Brown, by letter, that it
would be impossible for Council to give any consideration what-
soever to his request at this time due to the fact that Council
was involved in a legal action in court at the present time in
regard to a similar request.
Mr. Brown's request for permission to alter an existing building
on the same property was granted, provided that he make appli-
cation for a building permit and supply the necessary information.
Mayor Counihan cited the need for a City Marshal who would be
available at all times to help with the enforcement of our build-
ing codes and licensing ordinance Mr. S. R. Kent was appointed
City Marshal by authority of Section 54 of the City Charter.
Council approved a request for 50 loads of fill dirt at a cost
of from $6.00 to $8.00 per load for the recreation park in
Fort Screven.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned
subject to the call of the Mayor.
