HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998-25 Recreational playing fields establishment/acquisition need, property ownersRESOLUTION NO. 98-25 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, FINDING A LONG-TERM NEED FOR THE ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR ACTIVE RECREATIONAL PLAYING FIELDS TO SERVE THE RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, DIRECTING THE VILLAGE MANAGER TO COMMENCE DISCUSSIONS WITH CERTAIN PROPERTY OWNERS WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE TO DETERMINE WHETHER SAID PROPERTIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN ORDER TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE. WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne is a growing community with residents in need of active recreational fields, including baseball and other multi -purpose playing fields; and WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne has adopted a Master Plan which identifies the need to provide adequate recreational facilities for its residents; and WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne ha spent in excess of Nine Million Dollars ($9,000,000) to assemble and secure active recreational space and fields for its residents; and WHEREAS, there still exists an additional need for playing fields; and WHEREAS, the Village may be able to satisfy a portion of the need for recreational lands through the purchase of privately owned lands within the Village boundaries; and WHEREAS, the Village Council has identified the properties legally described on Exhibit "A" to this resolution as lands which may serve to meet the needs of the Village residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Village Manager is hereby directed to begin a fact-finding effort to determine whether the owners of the property described on Exhibit "A" to this resolution have any interest in voluntarily selling their properties to the Village. Section 2. The Village Manager is hereby authorized to take any action necessary and expedient to implement the purpose of this resolution, including, but not limited to, utilizing the services of the Village Attorney and any other professionals who may be able to assist in the accomplishment of the purposes of this resolution.
