RESOLUTION NO. 95 -17 �!'r "'' —
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF
STREAM, FLORIDA, URGING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO POSTPONE ANY REFERENDUM REGARDING
THE AGRICULTURAL RESERVE UNTIL A REGULARLY SCHEDULED
GENERAL ELECTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Whereas, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners
is considering a referendum to purchase development rights in an
area known as the Agricultural Reserve; and
Whereas, the issue has received considerable discussion and a
final proposal has not yet been developed; and
Whereas, once a final proposal is developed, voters will need
a considerable amount of time to study the issue and make an
informed decision; and
Whereas, Special Elections typically have lower voter
participation and tend to draw a more narrow range of voters than
General Elections; and
Whereas, Special Elections are expensive to conduct,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream,
Florida urges the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners
to postpone any referendum concerning the purchase of development
rights in the Agricultural Reserve until a regularly scheduled
General Election.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon passage and shall be sent to the Palm Beach County Board of
County Commissioners, every municipality in Palm Beach County and
the Palm Beach County Municipal League.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida at a
special meeting of the Town Commission on this 20th day of
September, 1995.
