HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998-27 Village Charter amendment; oppositionRESOLUTION NO. 98-27 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING THE VILLAGE COUNCIL'S OPPOSITION TO A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE VILLAGE CHARTER, PROPOSED PURSUANT TO PETITION OF ELECTORS, WHICH PROVIDES FOR AN AMENDMENT OF THE VILLAGE CHARTER TO REVISE THE NUMBER OF TERMS AND MAXIMUM CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF SERVICE FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR. WHEREAS, as required by the Miami -Dade County Charter the Village Council has placed on the June 30, 1998 ballot a proposed amendment to the Village Charter as presented by the Petition of Electors; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is of the opinion that the adoption of the proposed Village Charter amendment is contrary to the best interests of the Village; and WHEREAS, the Village Council desires to express its opposition to the proposed Village Charter amendment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Village Council hereby expresses its opposition to the amendment of the Village Charter, as presented at the June 30, 1998 Special Election, concerning the revision of the number of terms and maximum consecutive years of service for the office of Mayor, and respectfully urges the electors of the Village to reject such proposed amendment to the Village Charter.
