Since 1969, California has required that all local governments properly plan to meet the housing needs of everyone in their community through the California Housing Element law. This law requires an update every eight years. Lynwood has been assigned 1558 units of housing at a variety of affordability levels under this new Housing Element cycle, and must demonstrate that it has the capacity for these units. This year, the update is required to be adopted by the City Council and submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for approval by fall 2021. Lynwood residents are encouraged to provide their input by participating in the upcoming Community Workshop. In addition, residents can visit the City's website at http://lynwood.ca.us/development compliance enforcement services/2021-2029- housing-element-resources/for updates on the City's 2021-2029 Housing Element.
