Regular Board Meeting
March 16, 2017
Present: Bill Blakey, Renee DeRossett, , Keith Gay, Steve Johnson (invited guest), Jim Kluttz, Monty Parks (representing the City of Tybee Island), Daniel Turberville, Melissa Turner
(FOTT Executive Director), Alfie Waite, Patricia Miller Wann, Virginia Ward and Jamie Whelan (FOTT Administrative staff).
Absent: Scott Garner, Cody Gay, Maria Lancaster, Jerry Reeves and Karen Penick.
Call to Order: Jim Kluttz called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Introduction: Jaime Whelan, Business Operations Manager, was introduced to the Board.
Minutes: February 19, 2017 Board Meeting minutes were approved.
Director’s Report: Last month we had 410 members that number is now 391 as expiring memberships exceeded our 26 renewals. The renewal process was reviewed including original mailings
and our follow up thank you letter. A bit of a puzzle about why renewals don’t seem to come in regularly.
Melissa reviewed programming results: January results were good and February was even better as revenues exceeded expenses by over $5,600. Total headcount for February was 960 and
for Mardi Gras we had 162 people netting about $2,100. Family Feud netted about $885.
March results are also good so far with a sell out for Devon Allman. On Sunday March 26th we will show the movie “Gifted” which was filmed on Tybee in 2016. The film producer is allowing
us to show it for the first time in the country, at no charge, as a way of saying “Thank You” to Tybee.
April and May theater programming has already been booked. During Orange Crush the theater will be mostly dark.
Finance Committee: Alfie had previously distributed the February 28, 2017 balance sheet and income statements for the one and two months then ended, with a comparison to 2016. Alfie
noted that although total debt was the same proceeds from the SBA loan had been used to pay down against our First Chatham loan, resulting in a 1.375% reduction in interest expense
on the portion paid down as well as stretching out the repayment period. The lower monthly payments will help our cash flow. Year to date income through February is $21 thousand.
Building Committee: Daniel reported the screening for the green room area behind the building is now up. A/C is still an open issue. We still have some water leakage issues from the
roof. Glitches experienced with electrical equipment during the most recent Family Feud program remain.
Programming Committee: Rene noted that the Family Feud programs have been doing well. Cody has been doing a great job.
Volunteer Committee: In Karen’s absence Jim reported on volunteers and the fine work they continue to do.
Fundraising/Development Committee: Bill reported on a development committee meeting held earlier in the week. Virginia had made several truly excellent suggestions for things we should
do to increase daily traffic at the theater that
