HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES 91/02RESOLUTION 91 -2 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA EXPRESSING THE OPPOSITION OF THE COMMISSION TO THE ENACTMENT BY THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE OF HOUSE BILL 97 RELATING TO THE SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the 1991 Florida Legislature is being requested to consider House Bill No. 97 to amend the structure of the governing Board of the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority governing Board currently includes 4 elected municipal representatives and 3 elected Palm Beach County Commissioners; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority Board, as presently constituted with both municipal and county representatives, has served the public well for the past 16 years; and WHEREAS, for the past 16 years an elected municipal representative of Southern Palm Beach County has served on the Board of the Solid Waste Authority; and WHEREAS, the elected municipal representatives serving on the Solid Waste Authority Board have provided the leadership to create and maintain a countywide solid waste system which is environmentally safe and economically sound and which meets the need of both the municipalities and the unincorporated county; and WHEREAS, THE MUNICIPALITIES OF Palm Beach County have entered into cooperative agreements with the Solid Waste Authority to meet the recycling goals of the State in large part because the municipalities have confidence in the Solid Waste Authority Board as presently constituted with municipal representation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida hereby requests that the 1991 Legislature of the State of Florida, and the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, oppose House Bill 97 which would remove all elected municipal officials from the Solid Waste Authority Board, including the elected representative of Southern Palm Beach County. SECTION 2. That the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County is hereby requested to oppose House Bill 97 so that municipal representatives may remain on the Solid Waste Authority Board. SECTION 3. That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Representative C. Fred Jones, Chairman of the Committee on Community Affairs of the Florida House of Representatives, to all members of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, to each County Commissioner, to the Municipal League, and all municipalities in Palm Beach County. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective upon date of passage. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 12th DAY OF APRIL, 1991.
