HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES 92/01RESOLUTION NO. 92 -1 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, URGING THE SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY TO CONTINUE ITS PRESENT BILLING SYSTEM FOR ANOTHER YEAR, AND TO CONTINUE WORKING CLOSELY WITH MUNICIPALITIES TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS FOR ASSESSMENT, VOLUME REDUCTION, AND DISPOSAL FEES; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is considering a split assessment system and a volume based system of charging disposal fees; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority created a special 60 day committee to investigate the assessment and fee issues, and to provide the Solid Waste Authority Board at their March, 1992 meeting with the committee findings; and WHEREAS, a 60 day time frame in which to investigate assessment, disposal fee, and volume reduction issues as methods to reduce the solid waste stream, and to more fairly and equitably charge customers is insufficient; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority should continue its present billing system for another year, and should continue to work closely with municipalities on developing assessment, disposal fee, and waste reduction programs to meet the common goals of municipalities and the Solid Waste Authority. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, that: Section 1: RECOMMENDATIONS TO SWA A. The Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida strongly urges the Solid Waste Authority to continue its present billing system for another year, and to continue working closely with municipalities on developing assessment systems, disposal fees, and waste reduction programs to meet the common goals of municipalities and the Solid Waste Authority. B. The Town Commission recommends that the SWA continue its examination of the alternatives in order that it may adequately review methods for reducing the waste stream and for charging SWA customers in a more equitable manner. C. The Town Commission recommends that the SWA continue its present system of billing for another year and work closely with the municipalities to develop a plan to meet their waste reduction goals. SECTION 2: DISTRIBUTION OF RESOLUTION The Town Clerk is directed to provide the Solid Waste Authority Board and all other interested parties with copies of this Resolution immediately subsequent to adoption. SECTION 3: EFFECTIVE DATE This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of April, 1992.
