HomeMy Public PortalAboutMinutes - LIB - 2012-11-29Minutes McCall Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Thursday, November 29, 2012 Conference Room - 4:00 PM Call to order : 4:00 pm Attendance : Ed Hershberger, Jamie Bell, Anne Kantola, Jacki Rubin, and Lynn Lewinski. Minutes : The October meeting minutes were approved as presented. The September meetings minutes are still open for approval. Director's Report : Budget and Stats : The retums on Library monies are not exciting, but stable. We are still waiting for Linda to send the reports to review. Staff : Arliss was replaced by Heidi and that seems to be working well. Lida has tumed in a resignation effective Dec. 31, 2012 so that she may retum to her native country and pursue other avenues. Anne has rewritten staff positions, responsibilities and hours to adjust for staff needs. Hours may be changed and increased as is consistent with the Library budget. Lida's position will be posted internally and we will take each open position one step at a time. Friend's Report : The Friends needs were presented on the school website, the newspapers of the elementary and middle schools as well as an article in The Star News. Lynn will follow up on this to see if volunteers have stepped forward. Old Business : Member Replacement : With discussion about prospects presented, the Board will keep Jamie in her position. New Hire: This subject will continue as positions are opened or filled. Schedule: Discussed above, clarification needed with positions. New Business : City Policy Manual: Anne is presenting parts of the manual with staff in sections in order to comply with personnel requirements. Yearly Evaluations: Along with the manual, Anne is making an awareness of this process at her staff meetings. Tumblebooks & Gutenberg: This is a great opportunity! Go to www.mcall.lili.orq and check the on-line library site out! This website is sponsored by the State of Idaho for the McCall Public Library. Among some of the amazing possibilities are over 40,000 book titles, free! There are children's interactive books and more, all on-line. ICF/Shelton Grants: A total of 2,000 dollars were given to the Library for a children's section program that starts math foundations and fundamentals, as well as books for parents to interact with. This is a very nice asset for the community. Overdrive: There are still unanswered questions about how this e book service will work. Over 70 other state libraries have joined, which makes the overall pool of book titiles quite large. As an experiment, we will participate. The Friends of the Library have generously offered to pay for the subscription fees, a cost of $800. If we sign up by Dec. 15, 2012 we waive additional costs to be able to keep titles as our own . Titles purchased will come out of the book budget and the Board suggests that Anne stay at a low end of spending to determine patron needs. This is an interesting tum of technology for libraries, on-line books. The Board is curious to see how it plays out. Loose Ends: We are looking forward to having Gene as our new City Manager, and hope that he comes back to visit at some of our meetings. Adjournment : 5:15 pm Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 29th, 2012 at 4:00 PM.
