A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING
THE MAYOR AND THE VILLAGE MANAGER TO
INVESTIGATE HOW THE VILLAGE COULD SUPPORT
THE RELIEF EFFORTS IN CENTRAL AMERICA AS A
RESULT OF THE HUMAN AND PHYSICAL DISASTER
CAUSED BY HURRICANE MITCH; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne has enjoyed the fruits of a global economy; and
WHEREAS, many of our voters, residents and workers have direct ties to many of the
affected countries in Central America; and
WHEREAS, after Hurricane Andrew many communities supported our reconstruction efforts
and sent personnel to assist us; and
WHEREAS, the devastation is so overwhelming where there are over 11,000 dead with over
13,000 other people missing and thousands without proper shelter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Village Council strongly urges its residents to fully avail themselves of the
opportunities to provide aid to those affected by this natural disaster throughout our churches and
other non-profit organizations that are trying to meet these immediate needs.
Section 2. That the Mayor and the Village Manager and his staff be authorized to investigate
in what ways the Village could provide assistance to these affected areas and then report back to
Council to see if the Village Council would want to make a specific commitment to a relief project.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
