HomeMy Public PortalAbout19720419CCMeeting1 1 1 Savannah Beach, Georgia April 19, 1972 The regular monthly meeting of Savannah Beach City Council was held this afternoon in City Hall with Mayor Michael J. Counihan presidiigg and the following councilmen present: Edward Jung. Robert F. Cary James Stettler, George Schwarz, Perry Zittrauer and Edward Towns. City Attorney Bart E. Shea was not at the meeting at the time it was opened account his attendance at an election hearing in Judge Myrick's office in Savannah. He was expected to arrive in time for the latter part of the meeting. Mrs. Evelyn Butler was a visitor at the meeting. Mayor Counihan announced that bids for the new sewage treatment plant would be opened here at City Hall on April 26, 1972. The bills for the various departments were approved for payment. Mayor Counihan stated that since there was no further business pending at the present time, a recess was being called until the City Clerk and City Attorney could return from Savannah with the official election results. R E C E S S Upon the arrival of the City Attorney and the City Clerk from Savannah, Mayor Counihan re- opened the meeting. City Attorney Bart Shea announced that we now had an official certification of the elections results which has been signed by the election officials and certified to by Judge Myrick, the Election Superintendent, which he read as follows: (Certification) Attorney Shea then stated that based c,upon this certification, the following Resolution had been prepared for adoption by Council: R E S O L U T I O N Councilman Zittrauer moved the adoption of this Resolution. It was seconded by Councilman Schwarz and uninamously carried. Attorney Shea announced that a Special Called Meeting should be held on the 26th of April, at 7:00 P.M. in the event there is a petition contesting the election filed by any party by Monday, April 24th, in order that we may again re- certify the results of the election just as it. He stated that there would not be any additional testimony or evidence by anyone in order that the l0 -day period of time may begin running on the 26th, in the event another person may wish to appeal to Superior Court. Mayor Counihan then called a Special Meeting for this purpose at 7:00- =P.M. on April 26th. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned to the next regular or ppecial called.meeting. MAYOR CLERK OF COUNCIL 1 1 1 TO THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN OF SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA: We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as Superintendent and as Managers of the general election for Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, by Resolution adopted by the Mayor and Councilmen at a meeting held on the 15th day of March, 1972, and who have conducted said general election held on April 3, 1972, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter and applicable Acts incorporating the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia Municipal Election Code and the laws of the State of Georgia applicable thereto, do hereby certify that said general election was held on April 3, 1972, in accordance with such laws, and that the following candidates received the number of votes set forth opposite their names for said offices in such election: lA Michael-J.
