A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY IN
CLEANING UP THE WATER BODY LOCATED WITHIN PALM BEACH
COUNTY KNOWN AS THE LAKE WORTH LAGOON; PROVIDING
FOR THE PROMOTION OF RECREATIONAL ASPECTS OF LAKE
WORTH AND THE IMPRGVSEMENT OF WATER QUALITY AND HABITAT
THEREIN; PROVIDING FOR EDUCATION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC
WITH REGARD TO THE PRESERVATION OF THIS ENVIRONMENTAL
ASSET; REQUESTING OTHER MUNICIPALITIES TO ADOPT A SIMILAR
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING AUTHORIZATION TO FURNISH COPIES OF
THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL OTHER MUNICIPALITIES IN PALM BEACH
COUNTY, THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH
COUNTY, AND THE SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, numerous municipalities located within Palm Beach
County border on the water body located within Palm Beach County known
as the Lake Worth Lagoon; and
WHEREAS, those municipalities, as well as those located further
inland, recognize the wide variety of recreational and educational
opportunities and environmental resources available to all citizens of
Palm Beach County, as well as visitors to this area, afforded by this
water body; and
WHEREAS, the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream
supports the efforts of Palm Beach County in attempting to clean up
the Lake Worth Lagoon, both by preventing pollutants from entering into
this water body and through enhancement programs which create better
water quality and habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream desires to assist in the
promotion of all recreational, educational and environmental aspects
of this water body and desires to create an awareness of the need for
improvement of water quality of this water body; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream recognizes the truly
significant role the Lake Worth Lagoon plays in the aesthetics,
recreational and educational opportunities, environmental resources,
and general welfare of those living nearby and desires to encourage all
municipalities to continue to support the efforts of the Artificial
Reef and Estuarine Enhancement Committee to restore and enhance the
Lagoon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: The Town of Gulf Stream hereby supports the efforts
of Palm Beach County in cleaning up the Lake Worth Lagoon through the
improvement in water quality and the prevention of pollutants being
discharged into the Lake.
Section 2: The Town of Gulf Stream further supports the
enhancement of the Lake, creation of more abundant habitat for wildlife
in the Lake, and recognizes the work of the existing Artificial Reef
and Estuaring Enhancement Committee.
Section 3: Each and every other municipality is hereby
requested to adopt a similar resolution to provide support for the
improvement of water quality in the Lake Worth Lagoon, the prevention
of pollutants from entering into this water body, the enhancement of
existing habitat and creation of additional habitat for wildlife, and
the promotion of all recreational aspects of the water body.
Section 4: A copy of this Resolution shall'be forwareded to
each and every other municipality located within Palm Beach County,
the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, and the South
Florida Water Management District.
Section 5_ This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon adoption.
