A'r ORDINANCEPROVIDING FOR Tlfl OR INAZATION AND
MAINTENANCE OF A ;FRF DEPART= IN THE CITY OF BB MU::Oa rT .
The Board of Trustees of the City of Bea.ont dc ordain
as follows:
section T. The fire department of the City of
Beaumont shall consist of a chief thereof, to be appointed
by the Board of Trustees, who snail hold his office curing
the pleasure of said Board and shall comprise one hoee
.company to consist of not less than-2c:,c men and not more
thare4 men and one ladder and chemical extinguisher
company to comprise not less than --66)( nor more than,L� men.
Section 2. The chief of the fire department shall
enroll the requisite number of persons fit for auty :.n such
de tis. rtment and he shall then call a meeting_ of the same and
said companies shall thereupon organize puesu.,nt to ehe
provisions of Chapter Fourteen, Sections 3335 to 334;5 inclusive,
of the political Code of this state, and said chief, the
company and members thereof shall thereafter be goveened
by the r)rovisions oft said sections and by such by -lags and
regulations as they may a.o pt.
Section 3. All hose carts, hose and other fire
apparatus belonging to the city shall be turned over to
the control of said fire department and the chief th.ireof
shall see that the same are keit in proper condition and
ready for use at all tiles and _ie shall also make suc,i
teste as he may deem necessary to ascertain that the
hydrants and fire apparatus are a,le ays in serviceable
condition.
Section 4. The chief of the fire department shall have
the direction of all fire companies in any cases of fire in
the town and shall attend. every such fire. He must prevent
injury to and take charge of all property rescued from fire
•_:.rid return the same to the oener thereof, upon payment iit
any legitimate expense of saving and keeping the save and
it shall be his duty to ex: mine buildings in process of
erection and report to the :Tarshall ane violations cf the
provisions of ordinance nurribertw` of this City.
Section 5. The regular members of such fire company
shall be exempt from the payment of any street poll tax
to the city and the certificate of tee Chief shall be
evidencs of such membership and the Clerk of the ci :y,
shall on application of any member of such company who
shall produce a certificate from: ehe chief, add theeto
his certificate as clerk, that the comeaiiy na:._ed is a
regularly organized fire company of the city and he shall
affix to such certificate the seal of the city.
Section 5, '°henever for the purpose of test or otherwise
the members of the fire department or any part of them shall
have stretched or laid across, ori or over any of tree streets,
avenues, aighways or other public ulaces of said
city any portion of such hose, it shall be unlawful to
drive or lead or dre.aw over or upon such hose any animal
or vehicle of ani description.
Section 7. Any and every violation of the provisions
of Section 6 of this ordinance shall be and is hereby
declared to be a misdemeanor, and shall be punishable by
a fine of not more than Twenty-five Dollars or by :,mprison-
xient in the cite or county jail for not more than ::p days
or by is oth such Nine and Limrisonment.
Section 8. The clerk shill certify to t o paesage
