HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 114ORDINANCE NO. f( 41 AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING CERTAIN STRE,E S AND PORTIONS OF STREETS IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, CALIFORNIA, AS BOULEVARDS AND REGULfiTING TRAFFIC ENTERING OF CROSSING THE SAME, AND REGULATING PARKING. Section 1. The foll6 ing streets, avenues and parts of streets and avenues in the city of. Beaumont, California are hereby designated as and declared to be and constitute boulevards for the purposes of this ordinance, to -wit: Fifth Street from the westerly city limits of the city of Beaumont to its intersection with the easterly line of Grace Avenue; Grace Avenue from the southerly line of Fifth Street to its inter- section with California Avenue; California Avenue from the south line of Sixth Street to the north line of (1t Sixth Street; Sixth Street from California Avenue to the easterly city limits of the city of Beaumont, - And every operator of a vehicle traversing any street or avenue intersecting any of said streets or avenues, or por- tions of said streets or avenues hereinabove declared to be boulevards, shall stop such vehicle at the place where such street or avenue meets the nearest property line of said boulevard before entering said boulevard; PROVIDING the pro- perty line is clearly marked or sign -~posted to give notice of such fact. Section 2. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and required to place and mm'intain or cause to be placed and maintained upon each and every street and avenue intersecting a boulevard and at or near the pro- perty line of the boulevard as herein designated, appropri- ate signs upon the street or devices or marks in the road- way, such signs or devices or :narks to bear the word "STOP" or the words "BOULEVARD STOP" in such position and with letters of a size to beclearly legible from a distance of Fifty Feet along the Street or Avenue intersecting the Boule- vard. Section 3. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and as to those intersections mentioned in paragraph 1 hereafter of this section, it shall be his duty to place or cause to be placed turning markers in intersections as follows: (1) On Fifth Street at the intersections of Velie Avenue, Morford Avenue and Wellwood Avenue, at every intersection of the medial line of Fifth Street with. the prolongation of the property or curb lines of the intersecting street; At the intersection of Egan Avenue and Fifth Street at every intersection of the medial line of each street with the prolongation of the property or curb lines of the intersecting street; On Grace Avenue at the intersection of its medial line and the prolongation of the south curb line of Fifth Street; On California Avenue at its intersection with the prolonga- tion of the north property line of East Sixth Street and on East Sixth Street at the intersection of its medial line with the prolongation of the easterly line of California Avenue, or as near said intersecting points of said lines as may be practical. (2) Sections other than those mentioned in paragraph (1) above may be marked as provided in said paragraph (1) or a single marker may be placed within such intersection at the inter- section of the medial lines of the intersecting streets. Section 4. It shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle to park such vehicle between Grace Avenue and 1e11wood Avenue on Fifth Street, in the city of Beaumont, California, long- er than two hours between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m, of any day except Sunday or to park for a longer pe'iod than ten minutes, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. of any day except Sunday, in front of the post office building, in the city of Beaumont, California, after the curb in front of such building shall have been painted and marked "Post Office, 10 Minute Parking Zone." Section 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not to exceed $50.00 or by imprisonment in the city or county jail for not more than thirty days or by both such fine and imprisonment. Section 6. The Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordin- ance and shall cause the same to be published once in the Beaumont Gazette, a newspaper of general circulation, pub- lished and circulated in the city of Beaumont and the same shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its adoption.
