HomeMy Public PortalAbout1999-05 Supporting the Miami-Dade Commission in enacting Miami-Dade Ordinance 98-170 dealing with discriminationRESOLUTION NO. 99- 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA; SUPPORTING THE MIAMI-DADE ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLES I, II, III AND IV IF CHAPTER 11 A OF THE CODE OF MIAMI DADE COUNTY TO PROHIBIT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENTATION IN HOUSING, CREDIT AND FINANCE, PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS AND EMPLOYMENT; AMENDING ARTICLE VI RELATING TO THE OFFICE OF FAIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES TO REQUIRE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO PROVIDE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY WITHOUT REGARD TO SEXUAL ORIENTATION, PROVIDING SAVINGS CLAUSE, SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE ; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne is committed to the traditional and fundamental values of fairness and equality and to the principle that all persons should be treated fairly, without discrimination, in employment, public accommodations, credit and financing practices and housing accommodations, and WHEREAS, the members of the Village Council share a deep and fundamental respect for the diversity of the Miami -Dade County community, and support endeavors to ensure equal opportunity to all members of the Miami- Dade County community, and WHEREAS, the Village Council agrees with and supports the fundamental principal that an individual's ability should not be measured with regard to their race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age disability, marital status or financial status, and WHEREAS, the Village Council endorses the principle that individuals should not be discriminated on the basis of their sexual orientation in employment, public accommodations, credit and financing practices and housing accommodations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the Council applauds the action of the Miami -Dade Commission in enacting Miami -Dade Ordinance 98-170 dealing with discrimination. Section 2.
