Honorable Mayor Paul Daniels & City Council
City of Richland Hills
A Public Hearing was held March 8, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. Presiding
chairman, M.A. Atkins called the meeting to order, present were
W.H. Vincent, Mike Parrent, and Tom Adler.
Mr. Bill Hobbs called the hearing to rezone Lot 1 Block 1 Matthews
Re-Sub 3-~ from District "H" Light Commercial Business District
to District "G" General Business District. His request was proposed
in order to construct an $ stall self-service car. wash.
Fourteen residents of the area were present and protested strongly
against the proposal. They felt that District "H" was suitable
for the area. (This classification is zoned for professional 'uses. )
Mr. Hobbs stated an average day would bring in 60 to 100 cars, with
Saturday and Sunday trade averageing more. The residents felt this
would cause traffic congestion and with Richland Elementary only
a few blocks away, it would endanger the lives of their children
walking to and from school. The residents also felt their property
would lose value more if a car wash went in than if a professional
building was built.
Mr. Wm D. Weiler, 3273 Mimosa, said his property would be next to
the proposed car wash and the lights from the business would shine
on his house at all hours of the night; in addition to the noise
of the patrons .
After some discussion, the board voted unanimously to re,~ect the
proposed zoning change. They felt Mr. Hobbs could find a better
location within the City. However, they stated the area was
in need of a car wash.
Meeting was adjourned 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
