AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AMENDING SECTION V.
OF ORDINANCE NO. 141 ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE FOR THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT CALIFORNIA PROVIDING FOR THE LICE'TSING OF WHOLESALE AND
RETAIL BUSINESS, TRADES AND OCCUPATIONS CARRIED UN IN SAID CITY"
The Uity Uouneil of the city of Beaumont do ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1.
That the license tax rates fixed in section V, and in each
and every division and subdivision thereof, uf ordinance iso. 141
excepting therefrom only subdivisions 18-b, 4::, 89, 98, 112, 119-b
and 181, be and the same are hereby amended by an increase in
each license tax rate of forty five percent.
SECTION II.
That the license tax rats as established in section 1 of this
ordinance by the forty five per cent increase over the rate provided
in oruince io. 141 shall become effective immediately upon the
adoption of this ordinance.
CTION III.
That all license tax rates provided for in section v. of
ordinance No. 141, in conflict with the rates provided for in this
ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION IV.
That subdivision 18-b of Section v. of ordinance No. 141
is hereby amended to read as follows
SECTION V, SUBDIVISION 18-b. BAKERY: For every person not
having a fixed place of business in the Uity of tseaumont deliver-
ing bread or other bakedstuffs, wholesale or retail, from a wagon
or other vehicles, 48.70 per quarter for each wagon or other
vehicle.
That subdivision 43 of section v of ordinance Bo. 141 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION V. SUBDIVISION 43. GLEANING AND DYJ WORKS: For
every cleaning and dye works where electric, steam or water power
is used fir the operation of machinery n connection therewith, `:'8.70
per ,,uarter.
rror every wagon or vehicle of any ..ind, nature or des-
cription, gathering, taki-g, securing, accumulating or deliver-
ing soiled articles of clothing, bedding, household and domestic
linen, and other cotton and w ollen goods, and clothing and fabrics
of all kinds in the uity, for the purpose. of carrying, hauling or
transporting the same to any dry cleaning or renovating establish-
ient located outside of the uity of Beaumont, a license fee of
8.70 per quarter, or fraction thereof, shall be paid for each
wagon or other vehicle so engaged.
That Subdivision 89 of Section v. of urdinance No. 141 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
`'ECTION V, SUBDIVISION 89. GRAIN, iti Y, YUEL UR POULTRY GOODS;
no established place of business: For every person not having a
regularly established place of business in the Uity of Beaumont
dealing in hay, grain, fuel or poultry goods, 48.70 per quarter.
That Subdivision 98 of Section v. of urdinance Bo. 141 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
S'?CTION V, SUBDIVISION 98. HOTELS, tWOMING-HOUSES i.NT nPARTMENT
HOUSES:
a. or every hotel or rooming -house where 5 rooms and
not more than 15 rooms are maintained for public hire, 43.00 per
quarter; where 16 rooms or more are maintained for hire, 46.00
per quarter; provided that if a dining room is maintained and
operateu in connection with any hotel or rooming -house, as defined
herein, an additional charge of 43.00 per quarter.
b. nor every apartment -house having more than three
apartments, 43.j0 per quarter.
That subdivision 112 of bection v. of Lircinance 141 is hereby
amended to read as follows:
SECTION V, SUB I7ISIUN 112. 1UNDRY: For every laundry where
more than four people are engaged in such laundry work, 0.70
per quarter.
For every wagon or vehicle of any kind, nature or
description gathering, taking, securing or accumulating soiled
articles of clothing, bedding, or any other article or articles
in this uity for the purpose of carrying, hauling or transport-
ing the same to any laundry located outside the city of Beaumont,
a license: fee of .0.7u per quarter, or fraction thereof, shall be
paid for each such wagon or other vehicle so engaged.
That subdivision 119-b of Section V. of urdinanee 141 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION V, SUBDIVISION 119-b. ±ETi)LERS, FISH: ror every peddler
wholesale or retail, 4,3.00 per quarter.
That subdivision 181 of section v. of urdinanee N o. 141 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION V, SUBDIVISION 181. WHOLESATJ SELLING: For every per-
son, salesman or agent who sells wholesale from truck, wagon or
other vehicle, §4.35 per quarter, or fraction thereof.
This section shall be interpreted to include any and
all persons, salesmen or agents who handle goods, wares or mer-
chandise, whether delivery is made at the time of the sale or
orders are taken for future delivery.
Where more than one such wagon, truck or vehicle is owned
or operated by the same person, firm or corporation, each such
truck, wagon or vehicle shall be required to have a separate
license.

it is the purpose of this bubuivision 181 to require that
all persons obtain a license for delivery trucks where the owners
thereof maintain a regular delivery within the city limits with
such regularity that the same can be oLnsiderea and is an integral
part of their business, and not to license incidental deliveries
or sales which have no such regularity as would require the
maintenance of a truck or other vehicle for the same; the
regularity of the delivery to be the test.
SECTION V.
This ordinance is an ordinance for the immediate preserva-
tion of the public peace, health anu safety, and the facts consti-
tuting its urgency are declare_; to be as follows:
Resolution number 454 of the uity of Beaumont, adopted by
the Botrd of Trustees on the 20th day of iLugust, 1933, has been
declareu ineffective to change the rates fixed in the license
ordinance. It is, therefore, imperative that the license tax
rates enumerated in the Resolution be fixed without delay and before
January 1, 1935, in order to enable the uity of Beaumont to carry
on the official business of said Town in a lawful manner, for which
reason this ordinance shall go into full force and effect upon its
final passage.

that the foregoing oruinance is a true and correct copy of
urdinance No. 148 of said city, which was introduced at a regular
meeting of said uouneil held December 26, 1934, and was passed
January 2nu, 1935, being not less than five days thereafter, by
the following vote:
