AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
CALIFORNIA, ORDERING, CALLING, PROVID-
ING FOR AND GIVING NOTICE OF A SPECIAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON
MAY 14, 1940, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUB-
MITTING TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF
SAID CITY THE PROPOSITION TO INCUR A
BONDED INDEBTEDNESS IN THE AMOUNT OF
$13,000.00, FOR THE PURPOSE OF REFUND-
ING OUTSTANDING INDEBTEDNESS OF SAID
CITY EVIDENCED BY GENERAL OBLIGATION
BONDS THEREOF IN THE PRINCIPAL AMOUNT
OF $13,000.00.
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont, California, has
outstanding indebtedness represented by general obligation
bonds and interest coupons, and said indebtedness is to be
readjusted; and
WHEREAS, a part of said indebtedness is evidenced
by general obligation bonds of the City of Beaumont in the
principal sum of $13,000.00 which it is proposed to refund
under and pursuant to the provisions of an Act of the Legis-
lature of the State of California adopted in 1897 (Statutes
1897, page 75), as amended in 1935, Chapter 730, page 2017,
Statutes 1935, and the election hereby called is called and
to be held pursuant to the provisions of said Act;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, CALI-
FORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That a special election be held, and
the same is hereby called to be held, in the City of Beaumont,
California, on the 14th day of May, 1940, for the purpose of
submitting to the qualified voters of said city the proposi-
tion of incurring indebtedness and issuing refunding bonds of
said city therefor, in the amount hereinafter set forth, and
for the objects and purposes hereinafter stated.
Section 2. That the objects and purposes for
which said indebtedness is proposed to be incurred and bonds
issued therefor are as follows; The refunding of outstanding
indebtedness evidenced by general obligation bonds of said
city in the principal amount of •:x;13,000000. Said bonds to
be refunded are dated April 1, 1923, bear interest at the
rate of 5-1/2% per annum, payable semiannually, are of the
denomination of ;500.00 each, and are numbered and mature
as follows: Nos. 75 to 81, inclusive, aue April 1, 1941;
Nos. 82 to 87, inclusive, due April 1, 1942; No. 92, due
April 1, 1942; and Nos. 93 to 104, due April 1, 1943. In-
terest payable on April 1, 1940 or accruing on said bonds
after April 1, 1940, is to be paid from noneys in the inter-
est and redemption fund.
Section 3. That the amount estimated to be neces-
sary to refund such outstanding bonded indebtedness (exclusive
of interest payable on April 1, 1940, or accruing after April
1, 1940, which is to be paid from noneys in the interest and
redemption fund) is the sum of : 13,000,00. shat the amount
of the principal of the indebtedness to be incurred for the
refunding of such outstanding indebtedness is the sum of
$13,000.00, to be represented by refunding bonds in the total
principal amount of 13,00:).00. Said refunding bonds are to
be seventeen (17) in number, numbered 1 to 17, inclusive, are
to be dated June 30, 1940, are to mature in consecutive muer-
ical order, one bond annually beginning June 30, 1941, are to
bear interest at the rate of 4'/0 per annum, payable semiannually,
and bonds numbered 1 to 8, inclusive, are to be of the denomin-

A cross (X) stamped in the voting square after
the word "YES" shall be counted in favor of the adoption
of the question or proposition. A cross (X) stamped in
the voting square after the word "NO" shall be counted
against the adoption of the question or proposition.
That if said proposition receives the requisite
number of votes, to wit, two-thirds of the votes of the
qualified voters voting thereon, bonds of said city not
exceeding the principal amount stated in said proposition
shall be issued and sold for the objects and purposes set
forth in this ordinance.
Section 5. That for the purpose of holding said
election all of the general election precincts in the City
of Beaumont as now established for the holding of state
and county elections shall be consolidated into one voting
precinct designated as Consolidated Precinct A, and the
polling place and officers of election shall be as follows,
to wit:

and said election officers shall hold and conduct said elec-

tion and make return thereof in the manner provided by law.
Section 6. That in all particulars not recited
in this ordinance, said election shall be held and con-
ducted in accordance with the law for holding municipal
elections in said city.
Section 7. That the City Council of said city
shall meet at its usual place of meeting in the City Hall
on Monday, May 20, 1940, at 7:30 o'clock, P. M., of said
day, and proceed to canvass the election returns and de-
clare the result of said election.
Section 8. That the City Clerk shall certify
to the passage and adoption of this ordinance by a vote
of more than two-thirds of all the members of the City
Council of said city at a regular meeting of said Coun-
cil, and its approval by the Mayor of said city, and
shall cause said ordinance to be published once a
for two successive weeks in the BEAUMONT GAZETTE,
weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed,

lished, and circulated in said city. No other notice
of said election need be given.
Section 9. This ordinance shall take effect
upon its passage.
