HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 214ORDINANCE NO. 214 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUI:OYT RE1,ATING TO DOGS. TIE CITY COUNCIL OF T E CITY OF BEAUMONT DOES ORDAIN AB FOLLOWS: BECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person owning, having an interest in, harbouring, oc having charge, care, control, custody or possession of any dog, to cause or oeriit such dog to be it or upon any public street, alley or other public place or in oupon any unenclosed lot o. premises, unless suchdog be securely confined by a strong leash securely and continuously held by the person owning, having an interest in, harbourinL, or having charge, care, control, custody or possession of such dog, or unless such dog be confined within an automobile or motor truck. SECTION 2. The word "Dog" whenever used in this ordinance shall be deemed to mean a dor; of either sex, SECTION 3. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the pro- visions of this ordinance shall be deemed uilty of a nxisden,eanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding Fifty (c:50.00) Dollars or by imprisonment in the City Tail of the City of Beaumont or the County Jail of the County of Riverside, State of Cali- fornia, for a terra not exceeding twenty-five days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 4. This ordinance is an emergency ordinance and is required for the insnediate preservation of the public, peace, health and safety, and the following is the statement of facts constituting such urgency; that the United States is at war and is suffering a serious shortage of food; that our citizens have been asked by the government to plant gardens for the purpose of raising food -stuffs; that dogs running at large have been destroying and darma` ink_ gardens and growing food plants in the City of Beaumont; that there has also been several cases of rabies or hydrophobia in the City and vicinity during the past few weeks; that therefore this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and virtue immediately upon the final adoption thereof. SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the oassage of this ordi- nance by the City Council of the City of neaumont and cause the same to be published once in the 13eaumont Gazette, c. newspaper of general circulation, printed, published ;.nd circulated in the City of ieauniont, and tie same shall thereafter take effect and be in force at once according to law. 2ASSED AND ADOPTED by tLe City Council of the City of r eaumont, Cali- fornia, this 7 day of 1943. or of ' he City of Beaunont, Calif .
