HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 236ORDINANCE NUMBER 236 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, CALIFORNIA, AIvNDING ORDINANCE 191 and REPEALING ORDINANCE 203 of the CITY OF BEATTMONT . The City Council of the City of Beaumont, County of Riverside, State of California, does hereby ordain as follows, to -wit: SECTION I That Ordinance number 203 of the City of Beaumont be and the sante is hereby repealed. SECTION II That section 5 of Ordinance number 191 of the City of Beaumont be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: to -wit: Section 5 License Foes, Amounts of: The rates of License fees are hereby fixed as follows, Contractor, general, plumbing, electrical, etc., (see Section 1-1), per year Rooming house business, 3 to 15 rooms, per quarter 3.00 Rooming house business, 15 rooms or over, per quarter 6.00 Peddler, per day 3.00 Solicitor, per quarter 12.00 Itinerant vendor, per day 8.00 Circus, per aay 50.00 Sideshow or Carnival, per day 50.00 Fortune Teller, per year 100.00 50.00 Medicine show, per day 5.00 Business by vehicle, per quarter 12.00 Wholesale business by vehicle per quarter 3.00 Advertising Vehicle, per day 2.50 On sale liquor business, per quarter . . 12.50 Coin operated machine business, per year 100.00 All other businesses not hereinabove specifically enumerated, per quarter. . 6.00 Excepting those businesses in which labor is the chief activity and a stock of goods if not carried for sale or sold, for which the license fee shall be, per quarter SECTION III 3.00 Anything in Ordinance 191, or amendments thereto, to the contrary notwithstanding, all yearly license fees shall be effective October 1, 1947, and shall, during the calendar year, 1947, only, be prokated to the end thereof. SECTION IV The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the Beaumont Gazette, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City of Beaumont and 30 days after its adoption it shall be in full force and effect. (Seal) City Clerk whatever the business affairs, operations or information obtained by an investigation of records and equipment of any retailer or any other person visited or examined in the discharge of official duty, or the amount or source of income, profits, losses, expenditures, or any particular thereof, set forth or disclosed in any return, or to pe reit any return or copy thereof or any book containing any abstract or particulars therof to be seen or examined by any person. However, the City Council may, by resolution, authorize examination of the returns by Federal or btate officers or employees or by the tax officers of this or any other city if a reciprocal arrangement exists. Successors, receivers, trustees, executors, administrators, assignees and guarantors, if directly inter:_ sted, may be given information as to items included in the measure and amounts of any unpaid tax or amounts of tax required to be collected, interest and penalties. Section 19. PENALTTES. Any person required to make, render, sign or verify any report under the provisi _ ns of this ordinance, who makes any false or fraudulent return, with intent to defeat or evade the determination of an amount due and required to be paid hereunder, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more than :500.00 or by imprisonment for a period of not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Section 20. atilvE. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the terms of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thexaf shall be punishable by a fine of not more than 4500.00 or b- imprisonment for a period of not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Section 21. SEV"ERHBILI1Y. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or unconsitutional by the decision= Page 6
