HomeMy Public PortalAbout2017.10.18 PRAC MinutesParks & RecreationAdvisory Committee Minutes 10/18/2017 6:00pm Legion Hall- McCall, Idaho Committee Members Present: Irwin Mulnick, Forest Stanley, Matt Linde, and Corey Nelson Staff Member Present: Tara Woods Welcome- Meeting was called to order at 6:09 PM. Public Comment- No Public Comment Agenda Review & Updates- Nothing was added to the agenda. Introduction of Guests: Laurel Crawford, High School representative Review minutes from previous meeting: Minutes were reviewed approved. Business: 1. Scout Troop Project & Volunteer Opportunities: Discussed volunteer project ideas for the growing number of boy scouts in McCall, ranging in age from 6-18. Project ideas for younger scouts included noxious weed pull, trash pickup, rock 'clean-up' on beach (throw larger rocks back out into water). Older scout projects included creek/ waterway design efforts, maintenance, etc. 2. Afterschool Program: Tara updated on PLCA (Payette Lakes Community Alliance) need for new, younger board members to step up soon. The need of`the afterschool program and discussions of absorbing partial or total afterschool program if the group dissolves. Committee expressed concern of taking on the program with current staff shortage and number of programs currently responsible for. Suggestions included involving parents of current afterschool students to step into board member roles, bringing McCall -Donnelly Education Foundation in on discussion, securing funding. 3. New Play Structure at Brown Park (Update). Discussion on P&Z hearing and community garden issues. Update on,status of playgrounddesign and construction. . 4. Fall programs overview: Tara updated committee on current and upcoming programs (wrestling, adult. basketball 3v3 league and youth basketball). 5. Mile High Mile Discussion: Forrest suggested looking into IW or AVA clubs; groups that encourage people to participate\in running, swimming, hiking, and cross country ski events. Boise has strong group. Discussions of cost to certify race. Look into making longer and shorter routes; changing route. 6. Staffing Discussion: Parks Superintendent position was offered to Edward Heider. Committee was eager to hear if he will take the position and was in favor of the decision. 7. Dock Debris and Cleanup Efforts North of Marina: Irwin shared his experience walking along Brown Park pathway and seeing the cleaned up beach- best it's looked in 30 years. Highly suggest all committee members takea look for themselves. Tara updated committee on number of non -burnable debris (8 tons) taken away. 30+ people showed up for volunteer clean-up day. 8. Member Status: Brief discussion on term status of committee members; members want to know term dates for next meeting. Committee discussed Laurel Crawford as a high school representative. Irwin made the motion to approve Ms. Crawford application for high school representative. Matt second and all were in favor. The next step will be to get Council's approval.
