Building Committee Minutes
December 4, 2017
Called to order 3:25 by Bill
Bill Thomas, Andy Laidlaw, Linda Burns, Larry Swan, Jim Pace, Terry Edvalson, Lola Elliott,
Jacki Rubin, Lynn Lewinski, Meg Lojek, Heather Haynes joined meeting at 3:35.
Amendments to agenda: none
Approval of Minutes: Larry motioned and Linda seconded, all in favor.
Meg reported on 501C3
Andy - question about special tax credit for libraries
Terry- question about reporting to donors --who is responsible for what?
Updates from City Council work session 12/1/17
Take-aways-- Mayor Aymon gave some direction: 1. Meet with 3 new council members; 2.
January Council retreat will include library discussions as to possible funding 3. Make new work
session with BessieJo 4. City staff will explore possible funding ideas and outline them for the
Council's next work session in early 2018.
Discussion continued about strategies and options for the library expansion
Terry: need to articulate our vision statement (thereby distinguishing itself from other projects)
Discussion about budget; emphasis from this committee is on how our plan will solve several
problems on city campus and improve several departments.
Andy: symbiosis between departments to better accommodate public interface needs of Rec
department. Andy working on plans. Has the City stepped up and done some campus planning?
John Powell's presence is missed in this committee. Is he still involved?
Heather: focus on what we do have control over, continue on next step. Council was very
supportive to trying to find funding.
