(ANIMALS) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY ADDITION OF A NEW SUBSECTION BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 5 (Animals) of the Code of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, is amended by the addition of a new Sec. 5-34 pertaining to Exotic Animals, to read as follows: Sec. 5-34. Exotic Animals. A. For purposes of this section "Exotic Animal' means anv Animal which is not of a species customarily kept as a household pet, but one which would ordinarily be confined to a zoo or one which would ordinarily be found in the wilderness of this or any other country, or one which otherwise causes a reasonableep rson to be fearful of bodily hariT or property damage. This definition includes but is not limited to large cats, such as cougars, lid and ti ers wolves, coyotes, and hybrids of each, venomous snakes, and primates, but does not include fish and captive -bred species of common caged birds. B. It shall be unlawful for anvep rson to own, harbor, orep rmit at large any Exotic Animal without the written permission of the Chief of Police or his designee. Such permission shall beig yen only after the applicableep rmit has beenrg anted b the appropriate state or federal agency and only if it is demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Chief of Police that the Animal will not constitute a threat to public health or safety so as torp event the transmission of rabies or other diseases andrp event injury to both humans and Animals.
