This final performance of the spring series is June 16 from 5:30 – 6:30pm at the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout near the Pier & Pavilion. The duo began performing together in 1972 and pioneered the blues and rock scene throughout the Coastal Empire. Together they depict amazing songwriting skills while showcasing their own “bluesy” talents. Amburgey is recognized as one of Savannah’s best guitar players, and Hanson is legendary for his harmonica refrains. The two will share their talents and outgoing personalities at this month’s “Listener’s Delight” with those who are strolling the area, taking in the views, and enjoying tasty treats and shops throughout the area. The diversity and quality of music Amburgey and Hanson bring to Tybee’s Main Corridor will resonate as Third Thursdays continues to provide free, family-friendly, outdoor music. In case of inclement weather, the duo will perform inside Fannies on the Beach along Strand Avenue. Third Thursdays on Tybee will continue with the Fall Series beginning in September. More information will be available as the time draws near. Part of the mission of Tybee Island’s Better Hometown Program is to “support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island.” Third Thursdays on Tybee continues to promote awareness of Tybee Island as an inviting and thriving arts community. About Tybee Island, GA.: The City of Tybee Island, Georgia is on the outermost barrier island off the Savannah area coast. With a wild bird sanctuary, over three miles of ocean beaches, and salt marshes on the back river, outdoor recreation activities abound for visitors to the island. As a key defense point to the important Savannah port, Tybee’s Fort Screven, Tybee Fort Theater, Fort Pulaski, and the Tybee Island and Cockspur Lighthouses combine with the unique architectures of the island’s raised cottages to form a rich backdrop for history buffs. Attracting a strong artistic community, there are several local supporting art galleries. Keeping the island interesting year round are several arts festivals, the Annual Pirate Fest, the Beach Bum Parade, St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Hot Rod Run, the Beach Bash, and the Christmas Parade, as well as fireworks displays on Independence and New Year’s Days off the Walter W. Parker Pier and Pavilion. The Marine Science Center cooperates with Georgia’s DNR to protect threatened sea turtle species by searching for nests, protecting their eggs, and making sure hatchlings make it to sea.
