The unique outdoor frames will serve a second purpose after the 9/11 memorial. The TIFD will be donating many of the frames to local associations to be used again for individual memorial markers of those who pass on in the nearby area. The frames will be on display at 5th Street and Butler Avenue at the Veterans’ Memorial from September 1st through September 14th. The public is invited to visit the display and pay respects. Proceeds from the program will be provided to a scholarship fund for the children of fallen firefighters and first responders of the New York Fire Department. The fund is called the Bravest Scholarship Fund and is managed by the Uniformed Fire Officers Association of New York City, one of the unions representing firefighters in the NYFD. Corporate sponsorship is provided by MSA of Cranberry Township outside of Pittsburg, the world’s leading provider of safety products and devices for protecting users against hazardous or life-threatening situations (www.msanet.com) and by Clear Marker outdoor memorial photo frames (www.clearmarker.com). This memorial program was initiated by and coordinated through the Lakeville, Minnesota Fire Department and is being instituted in a collaborative fashion by fire departments all over the country.
