June 2, 1973
A Special Meeting of City Council was held today at
7:30 PM in City Hall Council Room for the purpose of receiving
the certified returns from the Election Superintendent and
Election Managers of the Special Election held today and to
adopt a Resolution acknowledging same.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor Hendrix and the
following Councilmen were in attendance: Ernest C. Hosti,
Earl R. Anderson, Edward W. Towns, and Walter W. Parker.
The following certified report of Judge Robert R. Cook,
Election Superintendent, and the Election Managers was read
by City Clerk E. M. Patterson:
TO THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN OF
SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND,
CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA
We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as
Managers of the Election, by Resolution adopted by the
Mayor and Councilmen on June 1, 1973, to conduct the
Special Election called by the Mayor and Councilmen to
be held on June 2, 1973, in accordance with the provisions
of the applicable acts and statutes incorporating the City
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and amendments thereto;
the provisions contained within the Resolution adopted by
the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island,
on December 20, 1972; and, in accordance with the
provisions of the Georgia Municipal Election Code, do
hereby certify that said Special Election was held on
June 2, 1973, in accordance with such laws and that the
results of said Election are as follows, to wit:
21 Qualified Electors voted FOR the Act
extending the corporate limits of the city
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia.
29 Qualified Electors voted AGAINST the Act
extending the corporate limits of the City
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia

Councilman Anderson moved that the election results, as
certified by the Election Superintendent and the Election Managers
be accepted and the following Resolution be adopted. The motion was
duly seconded and unanimously carried.
R E S O L U T I O N
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned
subject to the call of the Mayor.

A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Election Superintendent and Managers duly
named by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, in council duly assembled on June 1, 1973, to con-
duct the election just concluded and held on the 2nd day of June,
1973 at Savannah Beach, Georgia, for the purpose of ascertaining
the opinions of those citizens who are residents of Tybee Island
within the area beyond the current boundary limits of the Munici-
pality as to such proposed annexation of the remaining portion of
Tybee Island so as to ratify the Amendment to the Charter of the
Municipality which was adopted by the General Assembly of the
State of Georgia during its 1973 Session subject to it approval by
the qualified electors at this Special Referendum; and
WHEREAS, it appears that the results of said Special Election
have been certified to the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, by the Election Managers and by the Honorable Robert
R. Cook, Superintendent of said election, such certification being
attached hereto;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly assembled, and it
is hereby resolved by the authority of the same, that the results
of said Special Election be, and the same are hereby declared as
follows:

Qualified Electors voted AGAINST the Act
extending the corporate limits of the
City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia.
Such proposal to annex the remaining portion of Tybee Island
was, therefore, NOT approved by the majority of the qualified
Electors voting in the Election.
The above stated returns are hereby adopted by the Mayor and
Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island and officially
made a part of this Resolution and the Minutes of said Council
Meeting.
Adopted and approved this 2nd day of June, 1973
