Tybee Dog Park is asking for community support from residents and local businesses to participate in their effort to collect funds for support. Donation jars are being distributed to area businesses where people can donate and then fill out a bone donation card to acknowledge their "Bone-ation". The Tybee Dog Parks are located at the intersection of Van Horne and Fort Streets, between the Police Station and River's End Campground and RV Park. They include a Small Dog off-leash park and a Big Dog off-leash park. Different levels of sponsorship are also being sought from both businesses and individuals. For a donation of $500 or more the donor's business logo or name will be displayed on a personalized large bone-shaped sign. The wooden bones will proudly and prominently adorn the fences of the Tybee Dog Parks. Individuals and businesses donating $250 to $499 will be recognized on individual paw print plaques with the donor’s name on the dog park fences. Those donating $100-$250 will have their names listed as donors on a group plaque, to be displayed along the fences of the park. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law, through TailsSpin Cares, a Georgia 501(c)(3) organization. Donations can be mailed to TailsSpin Cares, 4501 Habersham Street, Savannah, GA 31405. Please mark the donation as "Tybee Dog Park" and include donor contact information. With a wild bird sanctuary, over three miles of ocean beaches, and salt marshes on the back river, outdoor recreation activities abound for visitors to the island. As a key defense point to the important Savannah port, Tybee’s Fort Screven, Tybee Post Theater, Fort Pulaski, and the Tybee Island and Cockspur Lighthouses combine with the unique architectures of the island’s raised cottages to form a rich backdrop for history buffs. Attracting a strong artistic community, there are several local supporting art galleries. Keeping the island interesting year round are several arts festivals, the Annual Pirate Fest, the Beach Bum Parade, St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Hot Rod Run, the Beach Bash, and the Christmas Parade, as well as fireworks displays on Independence and New Year’s Days off the Walter W. Parker Pier and Pavilion. The Marine Science Center cooperates with Georgia’s DNR to protect threatened sea turtle species by searching for nests, protecting their eggs, and making sure hatchlings make it to sea.
