A special meeting. of Savannah Beach City Council was held tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the purpose of amending the Zoning Ordinance by changing approximately nine acres of vacant land from R -1 (Single Family Residential) to R -T (Residential - Tourist) . The meeting was presided over by Mayor Hendrix and a quorum consisting of the following Councilmen was present: Earl Anderson, Karen Losey, Edward Towns and Ernest Hosti. The meeting was opened by Mayor Hendrix, who then called upon Councilman Earl Anderson to explain the proposed changes. Councilman Anderson explained that the area of the proposed change was in the vicinity of Bay and Daniels Streets, but that signs were erroneously posted in an area which was not pro- posed to be changed. Councilman Anderson suggested that if anyone present had anything to bring out that they had not brought out in the public hearing they should bring it out at this time. Mr. M. J. Counihan asked if Council had already made up its minds about this project. He said it looked like it was already cut and dried, since a survey crew was already surveying Daniels Street for the new sewer line. Mayor Hendrix answered that he was not aware of this survey and that if a sewer line was run, it would go down McKenzie Street and not Daniels Street. A question was asked by Mr. Joe Brown as to who would bear the cost of running the sewer lines and making the sewer stubs and water taps in the event the project is built. Mayor Hendrix stated that the biggest percentage of the cost of running the water and the sewer would be paid by the contractor. After much discussion pro and con as to the merits and . demerits of the proposed zoning change, Councilman Anderson . made a'motion that the zoning classification of Lots 1,2,3,4,5,7, 8,9,6 and 6A, Beach Block 3, Bay Ward: and Lots 1,3, and 3, Beach Block 4, Bay Ward, Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Chatham County, Georgia (Generally Located between Bay Street and the South Channel of the Savannah River and Between Byers and McKenzie Streets), be changed from R -1 Single Family Residential) to R -T (Residential- Tourist). 44 December 26, 1973 -2-- The motion was seconded by Mrs. Karen Losey and unanimously carried. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned to the next regular or special called meeting. Clerk of Council It 147. I∎evw. e -y. Q---r p Mayor
