A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OR DESIGNEE TO SIGN LETTER OF
INTEREST WITH CIOPROUSA TO PROVIDE A NO-COST WI-FI
SOLUTION PILOT DESIGN FOR THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
WHEREAS, the purpose of this item is to develop a no cost pilot Wi-Fi solution
designed and developed specifically for the City's unserved and underserved
community students, residents, employees, and small businesses using funding from
the California Public Utilities Commission and the pending federal broadband grants;
and
WHEREAS, COVID-19 exasperated the digital divide gap when the CDC stay-at-
home orders were declared and on July 20, 2021, Governor Newsom signed broadband
legislation to help bridge the digital divide by increasing equitable, affordable access to
high-speed internet across California through a $6 billion multi-year investment; and
WHEREAS, they will engage local School district entities, SCE, and
telecommunications and other entities to plan, design, build a hybrid secure mesh
network to provide City students access to Wi-Fi for secure online access to close the
Digital Divide; and
WHEREAS, In addition to providing a pilot Wi-Fi mesh network, smart-city
applications and hardware are planned to be integrated such as vehicle counting,
gunshot detection, air quality monitoring, and efficient lighting; and
WHEREAS, CIOPROUSA will submit plans and proposal to apply for funding
opportunities from the federal broadband grants.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Lynwood authorizes the Mayor or
designee to sign letter of interest with CIOPROUSA approved as to form by the City
Attorney to provide a no-cost Wi-Fi solution pilot design for the City of Lynwood.
Section 2.This resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 18th day of January, 2022.
