CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE
May 16, 1989
The ninth meeting of the Charter Review Committee was held on May
16, 1989, at 7: 00 p. m. at City Hall. All members were present except
Dorothy Hurdle and Jack Watson.
Tom Harvey gave the invocation. He also read Richard Glkadstone' s
letter of resignation from the Charter Review Committee since he is
now a member of the City Council. Dave Pagan made a motion to accept
the letter of resignation. It was approved unanimously.
Pat Jermyn made a motion to accept the minutes of the last
meeting, which was approved unanimously.
The members of the committee silently read over the information to
be submitted to the City Council: an explanation of the Charter
amendments, the proposed Charter amendments themselves, a sample
ballot and sample information to be included in the front of a
booklet to be sent to all the registered voters.
It was brought to the attention of the secretary that she had
omitted Richard Gladstone' s name from the list of committee members
in the sample letter to citizens. The secretary apologized and said
that it would be corrected,
Elizabeth Sheppard suggested the rewording of several items in the
explanation of the Charter amendments and in the sample ballot. Lloyd
Leach made a motion to accept these changes and to accept the final
draft of information to be submitted to the City Council . It was
approved unanimously.
It was suggested that the committee meet with the City Council
members to discuss the proposed Charter amendments. Tom Harvey said
that he would try to arrange this.
Pat Jermyn made a motion to commend the secretary, Elizabeth
Sheppard, for a job. well done and to extend to her a vote of thanks.
It was seconded and approved.
Thurman Rogers made a motion to accept Tom Harvey' s letter to the
Council, which would accompany the information the committee is
presenting to them. It was approved and the committee members added
their signatures to the letter.
The meeting was adjourned.
