HomeMy Public PortalAbout19740410SCMeetingSavannah Beach, Georgia April 10, 1974 A Special Meeting of City Council was held this evening at 7:30 P. M. for the purpose of: (1) Certifying the results of the Municipal Election held on April 1, 1974 (2) Purchasing a new police car. The Meeting was presided over by Mayor Allen Hendrix and a quorum consisting of the following Councilmen was present: Karen Losey, Walter Parker, Earl Anderson, Edward Jung and Edward Towns. City Attorney Lance Smith was also present. Visitors at the Meeting were Mr. Ed. Buttimer, Mr. James Bond, Mr. Jim Fabrikant and Mr. Joseph Agnew. Following the formal opening of the meeting by Mayor Hendrix, the certification of the results of the Savannah Beach General Municipal Election held on April 1, 1974 was read by Judge Robert R. Cook who acted as Superintendent for the election. CERTIFICATION Following the reading of the certified results of the election, Councilman Parker moved that the certification be accepted and the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION The motion was seconded by Councilman Earl Anderson and unanimously carried. Councilman Parker, Chairman of the Police Committee, then outlined the need for a new police car.: He stated that the Plymouth Satellite now had approximately 90,000 miles on it and was now on its last legs, the cost of the repairs on it being more than the car was actually worth. He then outlined the State purchase plan which he stated we would be eligible to participate in, the cost being $3640.00 for a Ford car with heavy -duty police equipment. He then moved that this Ford police car be purchased with Revenue Sharing funds. This motion-was seconded by Councilman Edward Towns and unanimously carried. Notary Public - State of Georgia R ene Brown lerk 1 1 STATE OF GEORGIA ) COUNTY OF CHATHAM ) A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Election Superintendent and Managers duly named by a resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly assembled at Special Council Meetings the 28th day of January, 1974 and the 2nd day of March, 1974, to conduct the election just concluded and held on the 1st day of April, 1974, at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the purpose of electing .a Mayor and six councilmen to hold office until the first Monday in July, 1976, or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified, have made the consolidated returns and results of such election by resolution to the Mayor and Councilmen calling said election, which return consolidation was done in the presence and together with the Election Superintendent and several managers; and WHEREAS, it appears that M. J. COUNIHAN received the highest number of votes for the office of Mayor of the City of SamannalL .Beach, Ty}acz ,- Island. ;. and. WHEREAS, ERNEST C. HOSTI JOHN C. WYLLY, JR. RICHARD T. DeLOACH , EDWARD J. FAHEY JOSEPH M. AGNEW , and JAMES S. BOND III received the highest number of votes for councilmen of the City of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in council duly assembled and it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same, that the results of said election be, and the same are hereby declared as electing.
