Dr. Crago moved the minutes be approved, Dr. Boyer seconded, and the minutes were approved. Staff Reports: The monthly shelter report was reviewed and discussed. Questions were answered by Karen Jennings. Karen shared with the committee members about a prison program that is working very well. Puppies are taken to the prison site and approved inmates, learning from a trainer on site, spend time teaching and training puppies basic manners. The inmates are working well with the puppies and the puppies seem to be learning quickly. Karen referred to this as a win/win situation. Written Correspondence: An email was received from Stacie Bickel via Randy Walz asking how often rabies vaccines should be given. Jefferson City Ordinance requires once a year vaccinations. Some vets in other areas are giving vaccinations every 3 years. Dr. Bayer volunteered to prepare a survey and send to the Vets within the city limits of Jefferson City asking them which they prefer and why. The findings will be discussed at the next meeting. Old Business: The euthanizing of the cats that were taken from 221 W. Atchison Street was completed. New Business: An internet animal archive for a pet memorial was discussed. This could be set up as a memorial as well as a fund raiser for the Shelter. A $25 fee would be required (with a portion going to the Shelter) and then a memorial would be set up displaying a picture of the pet along with sharing something special to remember the pet by. Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the City of Jefferson Animal Shelter Advisory Committee pg 2 Another idea would be a Memorial Wall at the new Shelter. A special wall would be on display with the pet's name who has passed on. The new Shelter design will be ready for review soon. Revisions have been sent back to the architects and once the review process is completed, construction could start early fall. Next Meeting: Next meeting date will be Wednesday, July 28, 2010, 12:30 p.m. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Diane Cary
