HomeMy Public PortalAbout20100622minutesCultural Arts Commission Minutes Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 ~ 11:30 a.m. Washington Park Center, 1203 Missouri Blvd, Jefferson City, MO Call to Order - Meeting called to order by Chairman Cindy Layton at 11:30 a.m. Present: Randy Allen, Bruce Dawson, Dawnel Davidson, Don Govang, Mary Ann Hall, Cindy Layton, Ann Littlefield, Bill Rodgers, and Gail Strope Absent: Keith Enloe, Lucia Erikson-Kincheloe, Steve Picker, and Eric Struemph Agenda approved May 25th minutes approved Old Business: Fund Development – A workshop will be provided to area art groups on how to update the web site’s calendar (www.artsinjc.com) with their events and how to prepare grant applications available through JCCAC or MAC. The Sub Committee was asked to meet and prepare an agenda to be submitted to the commission for approval at the next meeting. The workshop is open to any artist or area art group and will be held July 31, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. – 2p.m. Sign up begins at 9:00 a.m. The workshop will be held at the Washington Park Center in Jefferson City, MO. Website Development – Endorsement Policy to be added to the website. Imagine Nation – Due to the absence of Lucia Erickson-Kincheloe, Imagine Nation will be tabled until further notice. Grant Criteria and Procedures – The City Council Administration Committee will meet Wednesday, July 7, 2010, to review proposed criteria. Cindy Layton and Gail Strope will attend the City Council Administration Committee as representatives of the Cultural Arts Commission to answer any questions the committee may have. Tabled until next commission meeting. Public Art Review Ordinance –The City Council Administration Committee will meet July 7, 2010, to review proposed policy. Randy Allen will prepare talking points for the committee and the Jefferson City News Tribune. Cindy Layton and Gail Strope will attend the City Council Administration Committee as representatives of the Cultural Arts Commission to answer any questions the committee may have. Tabled until next commission meeting. New Business: Budget –  It was determined a $5.00 registration fee will be charged to the participants attending the workshop to cover lunch expenses.  The commission was informed the expense to fix the public art display at City Hall will be paid from the commission’s unappropriated FY09 budget. Promotions –  FY10 budget allows for $1000 to be spent promoting the cultural arts in Jefferson City. Advertising the website will entice the public to view upcoming art events in Jefferson City and provide a service to the local art groups and promote economic development to area businesses as well. Preparations for the Workshop –  Mary Ann Hall will email the list of art organizations and any updates to Bill Rogers.  Bill Rodgers will prepare a brochure and send to the known art groups in the area.  Randy Allen will prepare the presentation for the introduction to the Public Art Review Ordinance.  Bill Rogers will prepare a comment sheet for the participants to express their opinion of the Public Art Review Ordinance.  Bill Rogers will present and prepare a handout on How to Use the Website Event Calendar.  Don Govang will prepare the commission members’ contact information to be given to the participants.  Lucia Erikson-Kincheloe will be responsible for presenting and preparing the Grant Writing handout.  Dawnel Davidson will prepare a registration and sign in sheet for the participants  Set up for the presentation will be 4:00 pm, Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Capital Arts Gallery. All commission members are encouraged to attend set up. Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at the City Hall. No Announcements Meeting adjourned 1:20 p.m.
