Mini- Grants
Lucia reviewed the mini-grant application. Four periods are set up for the year for
applications to be submitted. The first period will be February 1-10. This will allow groups
attending the February 5 workshop to get information and assistance. The last grant period
will be November 1-10. The evaluation form was reviewed and may need further tweaking.
Workshop
Agenda for the workshop will be finalized at the next commission meeting on January 25.
Preliminary plans are for check-in time, receive name tags, information and coffee to start
at 8:30. Workshop start at 9:00 with Steve to show the revised website and explain the
eventkeeper calendar. The library has 15 laptop computers for attendees to have hands on
access to the website. People can bring their own laptop as well, library has wifi.
There will be an overview of the media promotion planned for the website with show and
tell of the flags, postcards and billboard locations.
Website Promotion
Keith reported ten billboards will go up by March 7 in different locations around the city.
Ann reported 7000 postcards were printed. Cost of mailing is from 24 cents to 30 cents.
Distribution suggested to hand them out to groups at the workshop, have at the CVB, Art
Bazaar, Capital Arts Gallery and maybe the Chamber.
To add a message on the back, the Library can print with their photo printer as long as the
amount is not too many.
Other suggestions to promote the website was to establish a facebook page and to have a
ribbon cutting prior to the flag hanging.
Plans for the “side walk parade” are to start at the Art Bazaar at 10:00 am with the artists,
mayor, city council and downtown merchants invited for coffee and donuts. After the ribbon
cutting artists would proceed to hang flags along High Street on twelve poles. A short step
ladder will be needed. We hope their will be lots of opportunities for photographs. Keith will
write a press release and distribute it to the various media at least two weeks before the
event. This should include the names of the artist who will be participating.
CAC goals
A brainstorming session for ideas gleaned several suggestions:
Art festival for 2012
Award event to recognize art leaders
Promote CAC activities in the media
Promote good public art
Create a corporate partner
Find private funding for public art & scholarships
Promote art education
Everyone voted for three goals. The three above in Bold were determined to be priorities
for this year. Since there is already a public art ordinance proposed that remains a goal.
There was a lot of discussion about the need to plan an art festival to include all the cultural
arts venues. The need to seek private funds through banks and corporations to match
grants and promote public art projects was the third goal.
It was noted we seem to have little connection with the city council. A presentation to the
council was suggested to involve them with what the CAC is trying to accomplish and how
the money allocated to the commission is being used.
Four committees were established to report to the commission. The Fund Raising
Committee was discontinued as it over laps with grants.
