There is still one official opening for a commission member. New Business: Tom contacted Jefferson City Public Schools about the possibility of a Children’s Choir. He will contact local churches this summer, while reminding them that this is a sectarian ensemble. Foundation Board: Jeremy explained that the Foundation is made up of the Cultural Art Commission members, and the Board is the smaller, working group. Cindy updated the Commission on the Board’s meeting. A proposal to move the round-about sculpture placement to Stadium was considered, allowing the possibility of a second sculpture at the adjoining round-about to be created. Daniel Howeth quoted a price of $6,500.00 for a possible “father and child” sculpture. Regions Bank has already been approached for possible assistance, and other possible sponsors will be approached. Cary Gampher presented background on Greenbelt ideas to the Board. Jeremy Cover will examine the original sculpture R.F.Q. to see if the change is permissible. Rick expressed approval of the concept, as there is a possibility of future Stadium round-abouts. Nathan discussed the need for appropriate pedestals for the sculpture. Cary said that Dan is at the point that he should be meeting with the engineers to coordinate project facilitation. Committee Reports Public Art: Because of possible conflicts, the date of the sculpture dedication and reception needs to be moved to later in the summer. The Commission discussed Friday, September 13, as a possible date. Location was considered. The Green Area Project was discussed. Cary described the origins of the concept. Nathan expressed discomfort with losing the revenue associated with the city parking lot, and suggested that a property at School and Lafayette might be made available for the project. The Commission discussed the possibility of negotiating twenty feet of chip and seal at the north edge of the lot for project use. Marketing: Cindy spoke with the CVB and learned that they are revamping their web site for January 2014. They will link our videos now. They are happy to have us link to their calendar. They offered to link our site and put fliers in their office for Sit and Sip. Any event would have to meet their mission. The “Call for Artists” process, concerning the Mural and panels projects, was outlined by Bruce, and Lucia drafted an announcement. Cary and Bruce will review and revise the call document. When the work is complete, Jeremy will facilitate getting the permit work done. While reviewing Committee meeting times, it was suggested that Gail might want to send Outlook notifications for the Commission Meetings (4th Wednesdays of the month at 4:00 P.M.). Marketing: The Jim Dyke Mural will be unveiled on June 8 at 10:00A.M. Art event videos are being forwarded by Lucia, as they are produced. Please, send them forward to other parties.
