Present: Bruce Dawson, Cary Gampher, Don Govang, Tom Hartman, Lucia Kincheloe, LuAnn Madsen, Rick Mahalevich, Gail Strope. Guest: Jeremy Cover. Possible objects of art for commissioning, buying or leasing were discussed and viewed. Lucia explained that more year-end funding is available because the Howeth sculpture won’t be completed in time for final payment from this fiscal year. Don Moved and Bruce seconded that the Commission spend $2,080.00 for production of the “Art” and Mural banners. The motion carried on a voice vote, without dissent. Possible leasing of a sculpture from Chris Wubbena was discussed. Jeremy contacted the artist for further details and reported that we would assume a liability of $3,000.00, as the City deductible is $5,000.00. We would need installation to be on a concrete pad. Tom moved and Don seconded a motion to rent “and you” from Wubbena for one year at a cost of $1,000.00. The commission discussed benefits of a rental program and concerns about theft or vandalism. The motion failed on a voice vote (1-5). After further discussion, Lucia moved and Bruce seconded a motion to purchase “Slice it thin Pile it high” from sculpture Simon Saleh. The motion failed on a voice vote (3-3). The commission discussed the option of not spending the remaining funds from this fiscal year versus real needs and benefits that could be achieved through funding. It was decided to have another meeting, on Friday, October 25, at 11:00 am in City Hall. Lucia and Cary will secure specific pricing and delivery guarantees on possible projects and/or purchases Meeting adjourned at 6:35 pm.
