Ad Hoc Committee on the Arts
Thursday, October 16 2008 ~ 12:00 P.M.
City Hall, 320 E. McCarty Street – Boone/Bancroft Room
Present:
Cindy Layton, Gail Strope, Bill Rodgers, Mary Ann Hall, Steve Picker, Mark Mehmert
(Chamber), Jim Crabtree, Kent Brown, and Janice McMillan.
The agenda was revised to switch the old business in front of old business.
Cindy Layton distributed an ICMA article called Harnessing the Power of the Arts, Capitalizing
on the Economic Powers of the Creative Industry.
Mark Mehmert presented the draft survey of the Arts which will be sent out to the business
community through the Chamber of Commerce. The survey was reviewed and suggestions were
made. Mark will send out the survey on October 20 with an October 29 deadline. The results
will be discussed at the November 6 meeting.
Cindy Layton will ask Michael Gaines to come to the November 6 meeting to review the surveys
and assist us with our next steps; review the mission statement, give the group a reality check
(are we where we should be?); assist in planning a forum with stakeholders; help us plan a public
forum; identify outcomes we want to see as a result of the forum; and make a time line.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 6, 2008 at noon in the Boone/Bancroft room at City
Hall.
